I am not really a crazy Star Trek fan but when I saw STTMP in the theater I felt like crying when the Enterprise was revealed. Jerry's music was so huge and so reverential. It was just an absolute lovefest for the Enterprise. "there she is!! WOW" Goldsmiths music was shiver inducing.

There have been many Enterprises of the sea, but the one that made the name legend was the U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier CV-6. Second ship in the Yorktown class, she was launched in 1936 and commissioned in 1938. In World War II, out of a total of 40 battle stars awarded by the Navy she earned 20. Better still, because a carrier fights with her aircraft, she was always in the front line. Better yet, she was in almost every major battle of the Pacific war: Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Leyte Gulf, the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot ... heck, some of her planes even tangled with the first wave of Japanese raiders to hit Pearl Harbor! But best of all, it was the Enterprise and her sister Yorktown that delivered the single most decisive blow in the history of naval warfare. At 10:20 AM on June 4, 1942, Japan's Kido Butai (Strike Force) ruled the Pacific. Then the dive bombers from Enterprise and Yorktown arrived just as the Japanese were distracted. By 10:25 AM three of the Kido Butai's irreplaceable carriers, together with their irreplaceable veteran airmen, sailors and technicians, were gone -- thus reversing the whole course of the war. The Enterprise was America's "fightingest" ship of World War II, which is why there was such an outcry when she was unceremoniously sold for scrap in 1958. But the Navy made up for it by using her name for CVN-65, the world's first atomic supercarrier, which was commissioned in 1961. And with CVN-65's retirement in 2012, it's promised that another atomic supercarrier, CVN-80, will carry the name forward in the mid-2020s. And, of course, it was in honor of CVN-65 -- and thus of CV-6 -- that Gene Roddenberry used the hallowed name for the hero ship of his TV space opera, NCC-1701, science fiction's greatest Starship. ❤

There's no doubt this music *is* Enterprise. I sat in the theater on opening day and knew I'd see her, but I had no idea what the refit really meant. The reveal was simply masterful filmmaking, and it wouldn't have been the same without Jerry Goldsmith's excellent work.

Governor Breck: (Actor Don Murray) If we lose this battle, that's the end of the world as we know it!! We will have proved ourselves inferior!! Weak!! And all those groveling cowards who are alive, when the battle is over, will be the weakest of all!! This will be the end of human civilization!! And the world will belong to a planet of apes!!

INSTRUMENTAL As evening shadows crawl deep and long Reaching across the bed Mother and father hear children's prayers Now as they bow their heads Bless this house Bless this house And the souls within Through the night til' it's light again Light our hearts to the dark to the breaking day Bless this house Bless this house we pray Save me from bad dreams if the should come Riging into my heart Keep us together one family Nothing can tear apart Bless this house Bless this house And the souls within Through the night til' it's light again Light our hearts to the dark to the breaking day Bless this house Bless this house we pray INSTRUMENTAL Give us? That are light and strong When the night goes one to long Bring us a morning wide as the sea? Where love will be our ark Sailing together one family nothing can tear apart Bless this house bless this house And the souls within Through the night til' it's light again Light our hearts to the dark to the breaking day Bless this house Bless this house we pray

Is this the scene when Ash is drinking milk? Maybe it's the one where Jonesy poops in the cryocontainer. It certainly couldn't be when the Alien comes in and demands to watch "Friends" is it?

One of my best friends and roommate passed away at a far too young age in 2008. This song was played during his wake because he loved movies and their soundtracks. Especially this one. This theme is haunting but beautiful. Elliot Goldenthal is an amazing composer. Thank you for sharing.
