So when I try to slide the tube off, the tube will not slide past the upper bushing that covers the pins. It’s like the bushing is stuck in there. Any tips on how to move the tube past this bushing?
@rpbiketech2 ай бұрын
As long as you have removed the top cap/seal then the bushing should come out. I’d be using the tube like a slide hammer and knocking the bushing out (careful not to lose the brass keys when it does finally move).

Apologies! I thought the was the OneUp video! The Brad X posts are a fixed travel so you’d have to replace the post. You mag find that the next longest brand x could be too long overall though so I’d generally point you towards a OneUp post as they are usually the same length for a longer drop so day a 150mm travel brand X would be the same rough overall length as the 180mm travel OneUp. While this is Shimano's official bleed procedure, for the life of me I don't understand pushing all that dirty fluid into the relatively clean lever. The dirty fluid is isolated at the caliper where the heat is generated as well as the pistons and seals being subjected to filth, so it makes so much more sense to do a gravity fluid flush first to get all of that dirty fluid out at the caliper and once that's done, begin pushing up. This isn't a knock on you, but rather a knock on Shimano.

Why would you do all this vs just a gravity bleed? Puck bucket of clean fluid up top, drain from bleed port until the fluid runs clean, close bleed port, squeeze out any bubbles if any, insert plunger remove the oil bucket, reinsert lever screw and done. I don't get what benefit there is to pushing vs gravity draining.
@rpbiketech Жыл бұрын
Both ways work to be fair, gravity bleeding generally takes longer and air wants to rise so pushing the fluid up and down lots of times tends to agitate any air that has got itself trapped in the system in which may not be moved by just gravity bleeding.

Hi, I have a onoff Pija with the same gas cartridge inside and it's supposed to be 125mm but 4 years after the cartridge only extends 8cm ( it works perfectly and I can even hear the full extension bottoming out click) do you know some way to fix this? Or it's new cartridge time? Thanks
@rpbiketech Жыл бұрын
Very hard to say to be fair. Usually if the cartridge has a problem it will either be losing air (which makes it become slower to return) or it'll have an issue staying in one place (which means it wont stay up when you sit on it and will come up by itself when you put it down). I'd be inclined to take it apart and see what's going on inside as there may be something that has moved and is limiting it's travel.

@@rpbiketech yeah, but it's a sealed cartridge and no service can be done, I tried pulling it out and rotating it without any success.. When desingage the bottom mechanism that conects the cartridge to the dropper itself the dropper is able to smoothly fully extend to 125mm. New cartridge or new dropper time I guess.. There are better ways of doing a bleed and flush. Pushing dirty fluid up into the levers is not a good technique, hence your fluid still seemed to be dirty at the end. Again, every person has different pov, this is how I've been taught to do.

Hmm, you could possibly try heating or freezing to see if that breaks the bond or some sort of penetrating fluid. Locking mole grips will probably be helpful too, if you didn’t want to mark the post then you my be able to use a seatpost shim around the post and then clamp the shim with the mole grips and hitch should hopefully give you enough clamping force to be able to undo the actuator with a spanner or adjustable wrench of some sort🤞🏼 Let me know how you get on.

@rpbiketech2 жыл бұрын
You will generally have an element of side to side play in most posts due to them running on brass keys which need a bit of play to be able to let the post move up and down freely. With the cheaper posts you may find that they have more play than the more expensive ones due to the lower tolerances but it’s rarely anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on it and maybe pop into a bike shop to get someone to have a look at it if you’re worried.

I dismantled, cleaned, and reassembled everything as described but my seat is only going up about half way. PSI is at 300 but a tiny bit escapes when I remove the pump. That plus the housing and seat post seem to not be gliding smoothly despite how much grease I put on there. Is this both a housing and leaky air pressure issue?
@rpbiketech2 жыл бұрын
Have you replaced any parts? Sounds like the bushings, seals and brass keys are worn and if they haven’t been replaced then that would be the first place to start. “Dropping air” wise, it’s normal for it to look like the air drops when you remove and refit the pump. If it’s only 10-20psi or so then the cartridge is most likely not leaking, it’ll just be filling the tube of the pump.
@jonathangarner81262 жыл бұрын
@@rpbiketech thanks! I haven’t replaced any parts. It came with a used bike so I don’t know if the previous owner replaced anything but he worked for the bike manufacturer so I trust if he did any work he did it correctly. Nice, helpful video. Is it the mk1 or mk2 version? Mine also has a little piece of string attached to the bottom part (actuator?). You mentioned replacing the cartridge. My post does return when I compress it by hand, but when I push then release the lever (with the cable still attached to the post), the post doesn't stay down. Any ideas about that?
@rpbiketech2 жыл бұрын
This is for the V2, the easiest distinguishing feature it that the V2 has a much smaller collar (where the seal sits) that has grooves around it. The V1 has a bigger and smooth collar. If the post doesn’t come up when you have pushed it down by manually pressing the actuator (without the cable attached) but comes back up on its own with the cable attached then it’s most likely a cable issue, try replacing the inner and outer cable. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for this, it's an excellent video. I'm a newbie at disc brake maintenance. It seems like it would be fairly simple to bleed air out of such a little system, but I'm amazed at how much fiddling around it takes to get all the air out. I've bought a used bike that I think needs it, but it would be my first attempt. I'm sure your method works, but as a point of discussion, pumping the fluid back and forth kind of confuses me. Doesn't the air always move more easily upwards? Is the air still moving up into the open funnel while you pump the lever to move the fluid down to the caliper or are you pushing air out the top and bottom? If you're pushing air into closed syringe at the bottom caliper, it seems to me the air has nowhere to go? Or you keep the syringe angled upward so the bubbles stay near the plunger and not go back into the line?
@rpbiketech2 жыл бұрын
All of the processes are really just about trying to agitate the fluid so any air that has been trapped in the various parts of the system can be moved. You’ll see air come out of either end as you move the fluid. Yes, you want to keep the syringe upright at all times so any air that you do get out stays out of the way and doesn’t get pushed back into the system.
