The previous fencing and barrier in the centre Tolworth Broadway was a bit oppressive and meant that it wasn't possible to cross the road unless you were an Olympic steeplechaser. I passed through here the other day and ten years on and I wonder what this greenway has achieved. The green stripes are now faded somewhat and in overcast and artificial light it just looks like poorly repaired and patched asphalt. There are flashing signs warning motorists about pedestrians, 20mph repeaters and parked vehicles at times. The central area had no one walking or cycling on it and the raised 'crossing' areas are still somewhat vague about priority. I would remain really cautious about drivers who are unfamiliar with the area who have just left the busy motorway-like A3 with its barriers and are arriving into this less segregated space. I don't remember Tolworth being much of a destination for shopping pre-greenway and I don't think it has become one since. This is a difficult spot to manage. It's commendable that they've tried to improve things but I don't feel like its been a great success and that the results justify the cost.
