I managed to hoodwink my poor parents into buying me a few issues of 1984 as it first came out, until they got wise to the filth! LOL I was all of 11 or 12. "By the great Gods I will kill Khan-Dagon!" Ghita of Alizarr. She was hot. A good Red Sonja rip off at least. This was always on the newwstands and at Waldenbooks or B Dalton or whatever. Otherwise I collected standard comics too, Mad, Cracked, and all that. Marvel movie specials. Read Omni Magazine every month. Another good serial in 1994 and/or Heavy Metal, was LANN which was an R-rated SF adventure series featuring the title oversexed dark haired busty space heroine. Vacuous, but fun! All drawn by Frank Thorne. Actually I forgot Thorne was first known for Red Sonja, which makes perfect sense. Earlier than all this I used to accompany my dad on regular smoke shop forays in my hometown, from the early 70s-early 80 the shop featured a huge actual newwstands with all manner of naughty materials, but also Famous Monsters, Space Warp, Monster Times, Starlog, and all that stuff, which I read voraciously. Then one fateful day I bought a few issues of Famous Monsters around after ALIEN came out, and they had ads for Lovecraft paperbacks in the back of the ish. And the rest was history.....I had not a feckin clue who HPL was until going to check out The Dunwich Horror hardcover from AH at my local library. Blew my mind.

@@thiscorrosion900 I started really collecting in the 1980s. I love all those memories! My parents taking me to Chicago in 1980 a comic book convention. I also remember buying the dirty heavy metal magazines when I was maybe 14 or 15? Buying at my local hobby shop, Lyle's hobby and craft in westmont. I don't think they ever questioned age, they were happy to have the money. Riding my bike with my friends to the comic book shops. Visiting the news stand by the railroad tracks, the big rack of magazines and comics... So exciting back then! Before computers, cell phones etc... The good old days! Thanks for sharing your memories and stories, and taking the time to watch and comment on the videos!

@@photomanual01 Yep was looking up 1984 mag. and your channel came up. I think my mom or dad had to buy me 1984 or Heavy Metal. The smoke shop I mentioned probably would have sold kids almost anything, minus Playboy or Penthouse etc. If it looked like SF or comics, they wouldn't care. When Heavy Metal the movie came out my pal Stan and I tried to attend at the local Loews cinemas, already a six screen theater by then, and 20 min. in, an usher shows up and kicks us out! LOL! My pal Stan was astonished by what he referred to as "I've never seen a cartoon t--t before!" LOL! But all too briefly.

@@thiscorrosion900 hahaha! I remember being like 15 years old begging my older sister to buy me a Playboy so I could see a boobie. When I really got into comic books when I was like 16 years old and had a job at a pet shop, I started buying new issues from a place called Westfield comics I think on the East Coast. They would just send you a list of all the new books coming out, and I would buy almost one of everything. Including heavy metal etc. I would give my parents my cash and they would write a check. Crazy memories haven't thought about that and years. Thanks for shaking it loose! Kids today are spoiled with their smartphones...

@@photomanual01 What a goof. There used to be a place in NJ Passaic Book Center which I went to in the 80s, and I read people would buy tons of comics etc. from them decades earlier by catalog or whatever. Later in the 80s I was buying tons of books horror fantasy etc. from Robert Weinberg Books, also pre WWW, for years he sold rare signed and fanzines books etc. and art with a quarterly catalog, all mail order. Those were the days! Weinberg was based in Chicago I think. I was reading The Monster Times at like age 4! or so. I got started early.

I bought Superman #242 because it was part of "Superman: The Sandman Saga". I remember wishing the interior pages were as good as the cover. In 1971, I had no idea that Adams only did the cover. The storyline is so intriguing that I had to read every issue in the saga. That Brave and the Bold #81 is a favorite. Both cover and interior pages. It was the first time I had seen Batman with a black-eye.

It was Barbie Benton that chose the mansion in Los Angeles for the home to get away from Chicago. He’d thought it was too small, but she won and the rest is history. Also, the two twins on the cover eventually starred in the Hammer production of the Karnstein vampire trilogy, “Twins of evil “ with Peter Cushing. They also show a hint of female bush in that movie.

I loved the All Star Squadron series of the 1980s. Something like that should be rebooted only bigger than before, using all available golden age heroes. In the All Star Squadron, we see the golden age version of heroes before the Crisis, then they are gone and replaced by newly created analogues with only the modern versions of the now missing golden age heroes existing, such as Superman, Batman, Aquaman, etc. The 2 issue graphic novel History of the DC Universe that followed Crisis On Infinite Earths was certainly a favorite.
