Its amazing how many people who have a tassie devil or tow truck type of dog opt for a sled pull harness. I was guilty of it too😮
@jasonharrisdogtraining3 күн бұрын
Yes so many, often it’s not their fault. They are lied to an advertising that tells them they will have better control with a harness.
@Michaelvan-g3q3 күн бұрын
So, quick question if I may..... I noticed she originally was using a harness and then you switched to a slip lead. Behaviour corrected. Would she now be able to go back to the original harness for the dog?
@jasonharrisdogtraining3 күн бұрын
Good question in time maybe but not until the behaviour is modified and under control and the handler has good skills. There is a lot of equipment association with the slip lead however behaviour can crossover if it is done right. But the reality is a slip lead gives you better control than a harness. I nearly called the Video slip lead VS harness.

Hi, I walk 2 dogs. Should they both be on the same side of me? Could they be on opposite sides? My 2 want to stop and sniff on the side of the road constantly. Is that okay? They also pull hard toward other dogs, squirrels, well anything that moves. They r both rescues and I am 71. They were going to be euthanized so I adopted them. 1 is 72# and other 62#. Must have been out of my ever loving mind getting 2 big dogs. I just ordered 2 slip leads and am going to watch ur videos a lot before I try this. Thank you for ur time

Thanks Jason my struggle with the lead reactivity is getting better. It's the reaction from people that doesn't help when I say no to a meet and greet on lead or Edith sees a dog and reacts. The more confident I am the better she is. I try to remember the training tips and it works.

What do you mean by serious enough?? My d9g is uncontrollably reactive when she sees a deer out the window. After 2 years I find the only thing that snaps her back into reality is screaming NO as loud as I can. It works at that moment but she doesn't learn anything and reacts the same way the next time. It is extremely upsetting and exhausting. Poor breeding. Shelter dog. Have spent $$$$ and endless training. No trainer addresses this manner and no, engagement training is not a solution.
@jasonharrisdogtraining16 күн бұрын
I would advise you to have a lead on your dog while It’s inside the house. This way when it reacts you can pick up the lead and you can correct them. Believe me when a dog knows that a consequence outweigh the desire you will break through to them. I wish we could live in the world of treats to manage our dogs but in reality it doesn’t work most times.

I'll go further...... many owners I see have NO consequences at all for the dog. They even further the problem by picking up their dog!! (ok, small dogs) 😊. It seems too many owners consider their dog as children.... talking, touching them, etc... which I believe escalates the problem / issue. Just my humble beliefs 😊
@jasonharrisdogtraining16 күн бұрын
Yes you are exactly right. However in this video I’m specifically talking about someone’s level of consequence to stop a behaviour. Regarding people picking up their dogs it is something I talk about in most of my lessons as you are correct This reinforces the behaviour by letting your dog know when it barks and scared you will pick them up. It is a battle to get people to not pick their small dogs up. but I will educate them one by one ha ha.

@jasonharrisdogtraining Yer that's good I get it with my German shepherd and when I first got him I had alsorts.of people trying to give me unwanted attention. They want their happy go lucky doggy to play russian roulette with every dog they come across. It's just people for us isn't it but as long as they are aware and you are constantly teaching them they might take their personal feelings aside and think of how the meeting could go before hand . I think if people want to meet and talk then a nice sit would be a more appropriate and teach manners. People could do with good manners and calm behaviour . Like people dog's don't need to grind up in each others faces, sorry I just rattling through how I feel and what I have to do. I've met so many idiots and they are so many more,the new one dog owners who just let your dog of to do what they please, well it's always been done but I am noticing it more.

When I read, "fear is often reinforced when a dog stands beside their owners," I wondered if training 'heel' is partly to blame for the increase in dog reactivity? Good video, btw:)
@jasonharrisdogtrainingАй бұрын
Yes, I do believe keeping a dog too close to you like heeling can certainly increase their confidence to react. However, it’s a tricky one because we need to keep our dogs under control when we’re in public. So in a sense we are forced to keep them close to us. Thanks

Yes! I was ignorant about prong collars and was afraid to use one. Nothing worked - tried easy walker, gentle leader. Still pull, pull, pull and I'd come home from walks in tears. Then I researched Herm Sprenger prong collars, decided exactly what size and features I needed and learned HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY. Now my dog and I are both happy, heeling on a loose leash, and our walks are happy. (Videos on Utube helped)

Every time I use slip lead it fall from behind ears to throat. Most of walk time is spent adjusting it. My male boxer is a puller. It’s amazing how other people can keep it up. I start off with a short loose leach and do a quick snap when he gets ahead of me. He pulls hard. The pressure on his neck don’t seem to bother him cause he keeps going. Help?!!

That's what he tell you need to teach him in calm environment how to give to the leash pressure and if it doesn't want to you need to give him correction or you will have much bigger probblem
