Wouldn't it be sufficient I you add an organic ammendment like gypsum or volcanic rock dust as a calmag ammendment? Or a nutrient solution for the block to soak up???

depends on the seed, eastern Gama grass for one requires high H2O2

This is unnecessarily convoluted. You are using 3 different units of volume, at least one of which isn't standardized. Units given: tablespoons, fluid ounces, and cups. How about milliliters?

If anyone wondering how often it should be applied??? It's like every OTHER watering. Be sure to Ph your water after. Watch out for the 3% stuff....go for 5% or 8%. And if you use bottled nutes, I wouldn't mix, I'd do a feed then silica routine (that's for soil btw, if you're hydro, I have zero clue). EDIT: THIS IS JUST WORKS FOR ME. THIS IS A SAFE ROUTINE IMO.

Couldn’t you use any strength hydrogen peroxide? The solution oxidizes pretty quickly if exposed to air. It just becomes water, right? Maybe it gets trapped in the LECA?

I soak until the tap roots grow 3/4”. It’s better than using the paper towel method, as many paper products go through a bleaching process that if it Doesn’t kill the seed, it will slow germination.
@snewp902 жыл бұрын
wow, i didn't no tap roots come out in only a liquid solution. i'm trying this right now because after soaking in water, then putting into paper towels. nothing popped
@uncomfortabletruth59152 жыл бұрын
@@snewp90 Actually I have found since the reason why paper towel failing. I had same thing happen. which was why I started in water but the fact is it does work better in paper towel. My error was how paper towels are created. There is a bleaching process. So I deduced, this was inhibiting root growth, which I had seen once tap roots were 1/4 “. They would get soft and die or just stop growing. Found the solution, soak paper towels in dechlorinated water, preferably distilled or RO. Ring paper towels out a few times over 12 to 16 hours. Than plate them cover in darkness generally warm place. I used cabinets over fridge, in 24 hours I had 2” taps, hairs all over it. Cut into peat cubes, stuck in starter tray with seed head locking out, humidity dome. Leaves in 24 to 48 hours. Goodluck
@uncomfortabletruth59152 жыл бұрын
@@snewp90 forgot to mention, probably better off soaking until you can see tap root, than switch to paper. Also only used distilled or RO water, don’t want chlorine binding up germination. ✌🏼
@snewp902 жыл бұрын
@@uncomfortabletruth5915 how did you soak the paper towels exactly? something they can lay flat on? they don’t fall apart when ringing them? right now i have some seeds in water with some peroxide. i’m going to leave 24-48hrs depending on if they’re all sunk. then i planned to just do my regular paper towel method. but i’m interested to hear more about soaking the paper towels to remove the bleach. before, in the past. i didn’t even soak my seeds. put in wet paper towel and they would grow roots like crazy no issue. i’m thinking it’s harder now because my seeds are older? not sure
@uncomfortabletruth59152 жыл бұрын
@@snewp90 I used seeds that were 8 years old and 60% germinated. As for soaking paper in non chlorinated water, anything should work as long as paper is fairly open. every few hours and change water and ring out before and after water change, As for older seeds being more sensitive, absolutely possible. Wish you luck. Have an auto AK and photo OG kush about a month in. About to make clones, when I come back from vacation next week, photo should have enough side shoots long enough By than Happy harvests.

Wouldn't it need to be in the buffering 'soak' for 8 - 12 hours to make sure that the cation exchange capacity is optimal to exchange the sulfur and potassium for the calcium and magnesium. I dont think a quick rinse will displace the potassium as effectivly

I thought that you had to soak coco in the buffering solution for 8 hours? Is the time it takes to drain sufficient?
@dustin22503 жыл бұрын
That is confusing. I heard the same. This is their answer in another comment: Michael Hicks • 1 wk. ago Adding to my comment.. Leaving the coco/calmag solution in direct sunlight (using a dark container with good thermal transfer such as metal or plastic) will speed up ion exchange drasticcly. After about an hour of direct sun, you should start to see some bubbling, this is hydrogen gas. Formation of hydrogen is visual indicator that exchange is occurring. 8 hours in direct sun should heat the water up enough, and speed it up so that 8h=24 hours of non direct sun/heat. Always stir it, minimum once per hour.
