I tuned in almost every weekend,to enjoy 20th and 21st classical music, his show was one of the few that you could hear Frank Zappa's music on the radio Jim? who will carry on with a modern music show.

I just bought one of these on sale at Lowes for $299, its a great basic lawn mower with FWD. After reading the comments here and elsewhere: if you are such a weak handy person that you can't be bothered to look at the bottom side to see the handle bars are in their lowered shipping position, then you deserve to be frustrated. The enclosed instructions clearly say that the handlebars have to be raised from the shipping position before the engine can be started. Or if you don't like reading instructions, just turn the mower on its side and you will see the handlebars in their lowered position will keep the blade locked in place.

People also talk about it not starting after it sitting over winter, but don't tell you they probably didn't drain the gas they had left in the carb or treat it with proper fuel storage treatment. Or even check to see if the spark plug is still tight lol I'm not going to lie to anyone here, I'm mechanically inclined and at first pull was confused why it wouldn't turn over, but my next thought immediately was maybe something is blocking the blade lol and Viola* I forgot to move the handle to the up position. I laughed at myself because I was carefully reading the instructions and completely skimmed that part lmao great cheap little mower I agree, just have some common sense.

Instructions were unclear. I ended up banging my mower with a hammer and elbow dropping on it 15X Now it works great. After I get my hard cast removed I will mow my lawn. You're welcome. No autographs, today.

I loved this man's broadcast. Many nights, I would drive around just to listen to Jim. He used silent pauses with mastery. His knowledge of the real-life stories behind the music was enchanting. & his voice was as comforting as a warm blanket on a cold night. He is dearly missed by me. I hope he sees this & knows how much he was treasured. 🙏

Wow the nostalgia... I remember listening to his show almost every night when I was a kid around 2010 and used to live in California. Had almost completely forgotten about this and recently was going through my childhood hard drive and found a really poor quality recording of that intro music and I'm glad I came across this to hear it in higher quality.

For those of you cant start it, look under the mower, there should be two handle things, you have to pull those out to get it to start

Thank YOU SO MUCH! I've watched about 10 videos already, and YOU are the only one who gave that suggestion! For those who do not know, your main handle pulls out more if you unscrew the nuts on either side of the bottom of the handle. You can see the handle extension if you look under the mower.

I have used this mower for 3 years now commercially (20-30 lawns a week with it) and it still runs and cuts fine. My only comlaints are that it started leaking oil from the valve cover after just 4 months of use, I replaced the rubber gasket by using black gasket maker and it never leaked again. Also, sometimes grass gets wedged into the the drive system and the wheels just don't move and you have to clean it out. Other than that it has held up great for a $300 mower getting used roughly 2,100 times now. The rope still works too.

Thanks so much for posting this. I hadn't thought about Jim in years, but for a brief formative time, he played an important role in my life. I was 16 in 1974, he would have been about 26, when I met him at WONO in Syracuse NY. As he had not long before, I was starting as a fill-in DJ. He was already a Voice, a Force, an Exemplar of what a radio music host could be. And what a marvelous opportunity: a shoe-string "underground" station that took the music, and certainly itself, very very seriously. Radio mattered! Thanks to PD Henry Fogel, figures like Jim got their start and veterans found a home, all too briefly. It would be interesting to trace all the cultural influences and riches that came of that crew and the dusty funky gasoline alley hand-to-mouth poverty of WONO; rich soil vs. the dead growth-medium that much of arts radio became. I remember Jim as somewhat imperious, proud, conceited, and to me frighteningly erudite. Just what I aspired to be! I was way out of my depth, but Henry gave me a shot and Jim gave me the light, which I eventually followed, in a small way. Don't know what would have become of me without those men and that scene. I can never thank them enough.
