I was a professional Luthier for a time, and have been a woodworker for 2/3rds+ of my life. I've built a Tagelharpa and a Jouhikko before. While there were times that you used tools "wrong", or didn't follow steps in the "right" order... I think this is a prime example of the most important aspect of woodwork: having fun figuring things out. Many woodworkers can get stuffy over the idea of fOlLoWiNg tHe sTePs, and dOiNg tHinGs tHe rIgHt wAy, but the truth of things is that the best part of working with wood is solving problems that will always come up, like the headstock coming off when you just glued it. And the best part? It looks great and sounds great. Clearly you're happy with it and THAT'S what matters. I really enjoyed watching this and it makes me want to make another Tagelharpa.

It sounds rather similar to a common recorder but i like the tone a bit more, I'm not sure if it's the microphone or the instrument itself, but the higher notes sound more relaxed than a recorder.

Nice! How was your experience learning the tin whistle? I've always wanted one
@AidenAppletonMusic3 ай бұрын
@michaelkingjun.6912 they are extremely fun to play (they are loud, though you can't really play them quietly), but picking up a decent one will really set you up. Learning the different octave levels took a bit of time. I think they are pretty accessible though, It's also fun picking up some in different keys, in this video I use an alto A and a high D (high d is the traditional whistle key) I'd recommend learning some folk songs (basically anything from the dubliners) best of luck if you start playing and thanks for the lovely comment.

First timer here at your channel, (KZbin recommendation). This was a very enjoyable video, and your playing was wonderful. Those Wild Irish tin Whistles sound and look incredible. I wish I could go to Ireland and Scotland as those are on my bucket list of my most wanted vacation spots. I have only been playing the Tin Whistle for about a year now, but my very first purchase was a full set of Lir Whistles made in Ireland and I think specifically in Dublin. I learned about them from Cutiepie's channel. It took 6 weeks to ship from Ireland, so in the meantime I bought a Carbony Celtic carbon fiber high D and mezzo G to tide me over till they arrived. I love all of them and play them daily.

@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life hey, welcome to the channel, I really appreciate you checking out my videos. Scotland and Ireland are beautful, Scotland has some of the most beautful areas in the UK. I have heard lir whistles are wonderful, especially there low d which I'm really interested in getting soon, I've heard carbony are great but really high in price, would you say they are worth it? Thanks again for the lovely comment! All the best!
@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life3 ай бұрын
@@AidenAppletonMusic Hi, here is my opinion on the whistles. The Lir like your Wild Irish whistle, has more of a metallic ring sound to them which I find very beautiful, that the carbon fiber whistles lack, but they still sound fantastic. Yes, the Carbony Celtic Wind whistles are super expensive, but because they don't tarnish and the weather doesn't affect them, I can carry the carbon fiber whistles with me everywhere I go without any worry. I find both Lir and the Celtic Carbony whistles are very easy to play all the notes up into the upper registers of the 2nd octave. I can't say much about the low D whistle by Lir as they didn't sell them at the time I purchased the set of 5 whistles from them. I do own a Tony Dixon low D, it was inexpensive and the sound is very nice. If I were to invest in a low D whistle to play on a regular basis, I would purchase in the Celtic Carbony one because even though it is very expensive they created a unique chimney tube system that allows them to make the fingering spaces of the holes much closer together so it would be like playing their mezzo G or A whistle and much easier to play than any other low D whistle. In other words you won't need to play using the piper grip.
@AidenAppletonMusic3 ай бұрын
@@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life I might go ahead and get a carbony low d in the future, i don't have much experience on playing with the different grip but i think they are so beautiful, Lir is a good option, guess will have to see how much money i have at the end of the year haha.

@@AidenAppletonMusic I just made the plunge myself last Thursday and ordered the Carbony low D with the close fingering and added both thumb holes so I won't have to half hole the C and F naturals. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

your woodworking skills definetily have room for improvement but it looks like you can make anything sound good. Great job and great video. Your previous build video inspired me to make a tagleharpa of my own, which I am currently working on. If it is not bothersome for you to check, may I ask how thick was the soundboard and backboard for your tagleharpa?
@AidenAppletonMusic4 ай бұрын
Aw thanks so much for the really lovely comment, best of luck with your Tagelharpa build, I've just had a look back my soundboard front was around 4.5mm (that's on the thicker side, they are normally around 3mm i believe...you should use a soundpost for added support, My backboard was around 7-8 mm which I also believe is on the thicker side. Hope that helps.

'Because my obsessions change', I learned that when yew is used for bows, it is split before shaping because the internal and external wood are good at either compression or stress and I think the bow should put some tension on the horse-hair. I think you've probably encouraged more people to have a go than the people who know exactly what they're doing :-). I learned a few days ago that violins have a saddle. It might be worth having a look before the next one.

Just another day in mid-September I was thinking of you I was thinking of a place I remember and a song we'd journey to So can we leave it all tomorrow Can we do it all again Can we do the things we're dreaming about Cause the years are going quicker than they were back then. More mistakes than I'll ever admit But they faded when the sunlight hit On the lake out in Idaho Where the forest hears all I know I'm terrified of what I've become I'm forgetting all the things I've done I thought you said I would see you again Guess the words came easier then I know I belong back there And this road im travelling it goes no where You tell me im stuck in the past But the signs are telling me I'm going too fast I always knew it would be something I'd miss But I couldn't ever know that it would hurt me like this, so If you want to go for one last ride We can take this old car and leave the world behind California never looked so pretty We took the trip out of Oklahoma city Like we did many years ago Take the turning off the highway that could bring me home Count the stars in the summertime sky Watch the ferry boats getting so high and I hope you're wishing for the same things too And I hope that you could love me like I'm loving you so, Can we leave it all tomorrow? Can we do it all again Can we do the things we're dreaming about Cause the years are going quicker than they were back then. Can we leave it all tomorrow? Can we do it all again Can we do the things we're dreaming about Cause the years are going quicker than they were back then.
