Yeah,it definitely wasn't the horse or ill training. The rider needs a refresher on her position and how to solidify her lower leg underneath her, her balance over the saddle, and soften her hands. The horse was always fine. This is almost the issue with me and my mare. She gets alittle quick in the canter so I am in the process of solidifying my position, loosening my hips, and allowing her to relax into the gait, not have me forcing her to slow down.

it is the rider and as a result of her incorrect riding posture, it affects the horse's movement - the rider is EVERYTHING in how the horse moves - notice how the horse is not tracking up? - the hind hooves need to come into the exact place where the forelegs touched down a second before - also I noticed the rider leaned back quite a bit - you never want to to lean back - it puts tremendous pressure on the horse's back specifically the lumbar which will make the horse lame in time - also when she did the sitting trot, she needs to work on being more grounded in her seat - she would bounce up and then come down hard on the saddle which transfers to the horse's back which can sometimes lead to kissing spine - every kind of rider of any discipline whether it be English or Western can benefit from dressage training - I know western disciplined riders wouldn't think of training under a dressage instructor but dressage is the foundation for ALL disciplines of riding!

I'm not hating on the rider but she didn't need to ride a horse are couldn't mange. If I let my horse have her head at a canter, she will gallop around the arena. It's annoying cause she doesn't really understand half halts and bullets over the jump. But it's fun!!!

This is a great trainng video to catch the "a-ha" moment from the rider, who seems to be somewhat of a beginner, or maybe she's been riding school masters for a while and not familiar with early training. Also, classical dressage is the only way to train for the health of the horse. Those high level horses in competition dressage break down quickly and have short lives.

She must be a walk trot horse? Did he ever gallop her?? I did not see him gallop either the grey or Dolly. I do not think a horse can be called trained unless the trainer can gallop them quietly and in control.

There is nothing wrong with that horse, the rider kept bumping the reins in the beginning and is confusing to the horse. All he did was something very simple to correct it, I used to ride a horse exactly like that not to long ago, you have to be able to communicate with the horse in order for it to do anything right. I'd say it was more the rider than anything, she just totally blamed the horse and didn't even look at her own riding first to see if she was doing anything wrong. Before I blame the horse I look at how I ride first because most of the time it is the rider, not the horse. The horse is only doing what it thinks you want. The rider wasn't relaxed and too stiff and there was hardly any even contact in the reins.

Emily Blackwell, it's always easy to find fault in other people but harder to connect and understand where that person is at! its always disappointing how judgemental people respond with their righteousness. Now, keep the cyber bullying down, thanks!

I would say its the rider, she is a little too stiff, which is not allowing the horse to move freely under her, most of the time its the rider, yet people are so conceded and think they know what they are doing, and blaming the horse. Some riders need to be humbled a little bit...

I have a bolting horse and I've been thrown off twice at high speed "get off's". I don't need a video that shows a bolting horse. I need good ground work that shows how to correct the problem. Thank you for this free excellent advice that I definitely plan to use. This advice backs up the rest of the professional horse trainer's advice and was very well demonstrated.

Dear Ryan, because the adds on your videos are so overpowering, I'm not going to view them any more. It is a shame because you are a very good horseman. I have purchased DVD's from inspiring videos, without all the adds. I understand you need to make a living, but the adds are pushing viewers away. I know if the adds where at the end of the video, a lot of viewers would not bother to watch them, but it would give us the choice. Because I can't suffer the adds over and over again, I'm not going to view your videos at all.

To Left_Behind xx and Lana Horton and the others that saw no improvement -- You don't know what you are looking at. What Ryan did was not magic by any means. It was simply understanding that the horse needed to learn to flex. Did you notice that Jerilyn wasn't coming out of the saddle at the lope at the end? No one mentioned that. Did you notice that her legs, although not in great position, were in much better at the end? There was a LOT of improvement. It shows what CAN be done in 4 days.

They filmed this in 4 days. You didn't everything that happened so of course you didn't see improvement. Plus, the horse won't be perfect in 4 days, but in that amount of time, even a little consistent improvement is impressive.

I don't know her, but I know what it is like to have to make that hard decision, and having to come back home. thank you ryan for what you did, even though you did not have to, but you did, with a happy heart, may dolly and her owner excel and have many great memories together. sure would love to hear how they are doing now.

stfu, im 14 and i got my horse when he was 2, i broke him in my self, without no help what so ever, all i had was internet and a few years from a riding school. So don't you dare say that a 13 year old knows nothing, plus my horse is a hardy cob with ALOT of muscle to control, so i suggest you keep your trap shut before some one shuts it up for you. Yes my horse is fast at canter and i was looking for help on this video, obv ur older than us and is seeking help to, who knows nothing now? cow. xo

I agree with you! Why use a PAIN bit in a sensitive area! Rope halter is the way to go, all mine are trained on them, and go bitless! And they are Standardbreds off the track. My Gelding was said to be dangerous and was going to be put down... I ride him bitless all over the trails and he Does not need to be sedated to get his hooves done...! MAN THING IS "ask, ask then DO"! and be CONSTANT!

PFFT. This is BUULLLL. First, the canter wasnt that fast. If you want to see fast, go ride an English horse that hasnt been ridden is a year. I deal with this EVERYDAY. It doesnt take a "specialist". Im 13 and can fix this problem in my sleep.
@FancySassy80
@FancySassy80 11 жыл бұрын
so instead of pressure around the face on a rope bridle you would recommend a bit which can break teach, bars and etc when the horse bolts.. that makes NOOO sense.. I've fixed my horse who bolted with a rope halter by teaching him to give to the pressure.. both in and out of saddle.. a bit is not a good idea for a horse that bolts..

i tend to agree with you, i dont see too much of a difference. The horse wasnt that bad to begin with and the problem was minor..nothing against this guy im sure he's fabulous at what he does, but what i saw from this video is something any trainer could have solved, i see mine do it on a daily basis..doesn't take a specialist, just someone who isnt a novice at horsemanship..like you said shes still hanging on the mouth so, unless she improves, the problem will probably crop back up

I don't see a lot of difference from the start except she now has some bending tools she didn't appear to have before.Lateral flexion leads to vertical flexion. She's still hanging on the horse's mouth, which he is fighting much of the time. He gives to it here and there, but I don't think she knows quite what to do when he does.She takes when he gives.

Hi Ryan, Had you demonstrated this on "Lady the professional bolter" I would have been more convinced. I don't think I'll go out and buy a bunch of DVD's based on this. This horse doesn't display any bolting. Bolting in my opinion is the WORST thing a horse can do, if you really want to plug your DVD's action speaks louder than words, you could have demonstrated getting control in a REAL situation.

Question about backing as a correction, I have a friend who backed her horse up so aggressisvly when he did something wrong on the ground, that when ever he gets confused he would back up on the ground or under saddle.(As in fly backword) He is a very reactive arab, so where do you draw the line? Is it the amount of pressure when correcting? She is also a very reactive person not a good match. Thanks
