Both professions contribute greatly to each other. NP’s were invented by overworked doctors in Colorado. And NP’s are nurses with advanced education (usually a masters or doctorate) that take on common ailments to assist doctors that are overwhelmed. A perfect healthcare team consists of both.

It was the goal, the passion, the drive and the dream of achieving it. I trained in big bad busy NYC hospitals some akin to war zones and no work hours regulation as the current residents have. Even if you are not 100% sure it is for you complete it and get it under your belt then you can always add gigs or alter gigs but at least you have a completed foundation.

NPs who think they should be called Doctor in a setting where there are physicians are wrong. Stay in your lane. If you want to be called doctor go teach at a University. If you want to be called doctor in a setting where physicians are present, go to medical school. Yes we earned a doctorate but please use common sense. The depth and breadth of our (DNP, FNP) education doesn’t even come close to a physicians’. Get real.

If they earn a doctorate, they can be called doctors. You don't own that title. That title belongs to anyone who earns a doctorate. Pharmacists are doctors as well as whoever earn a PhD or doctorate. If they went through 8 years of school they deserve it. Stay out of their lane. It's not their fault there's a shortage of MD's and now patients want NP's because they're tired of waiting for months.

He says patients "Demote" female doctors to less than what they are by mistaking them for nurses? Does that mean you think being a nurse is a demotion from being a doctor? Nurses literally do all of the patient care and can procedurally walk circles around doctors. Doctors are not the bosses or superiors to nurses, they are colleagues.

I will not call a nurse a doctor. NP’s and PA’s do not have near as much training and knowledge as doctors. They did not go to school as long and didn’t have to take the amount of exams needed to become a doctor. So they are not doctors and to call one a doctor is a slap in the face to those who have spent many years in school, thousands of hours studying and thousands more dollars to get their PhD in medical care. Big difference!!

*MD in medical care. PhDs are for research
@user-nu3el2mo2w3 жыл бұрын
Both should be called a doctor because both earned that title and both studied and trained countless of hours to get where they are. This is not a comparison about which profession is better and which profession requires a more rigorous training. An NP’s approach in their scope of practice is different than that of a physician. This why physicians go to medical school and DNPs go to, first nursing school, then NP school. Both contribute different things in providing care and complement each other when providing care to a patient. Their scope of practice are similar in many ways but each also has a set of skills that is unique to their profession. A DNP should be called a doctor, although they’re NOT a PHYSICIAN, because they’ve EARNED that degree. A PHYSICIAN is called a doctor because they’ve earned that title as well. The difference is that one has a DOCTORATE in nursing practice and the other has one in medicine. Hope this help because your type of sentiment is what’s hurting the relationship between medical providers.
