Can I ask, what kind of industrial machines, I should say, the brands. I REALLY hate my Brother serger! Thanks again 😋.
@AnnTilleyHandmade16 күн бұрын
I have a Yamato serger that’s pretty old. I got it from a factory liquidator. My single needle industrial is a Brother with some nice automatic features like thread cutting that I love. Just a bummer that they take up so much space. Would have more if I had the room!

I’ve had some success with using tiny but powerful magnets - coat them in nail varnish before you sew them in though, because my first experiments went rusty but now they’re painted, they’re holding up well.

I am currently making underwear. I have tried several patterns, but my current favourite is the Tilly and the Buttons Iris. I made 5 airs yesterday, all with an elastic picot lace, FOE, or stretch lace trim and they took me all day. I will try your hip huggers, for sure.

I’ve made my own undies a few times, drafted from a pair that I own and watching underwear making vids. I bring the side seam forward to avoid side chaffing, I like fabric leg bands instead of elastic. I repurpose elastic or remove bands from underwear that wasn’t fitting well. I used old t shirts but it doesn’t stay well fitting, I try to find a little two way stretch, in upcycled t shirts or dresses. Also I saw a method for customizing the gusset which can be skimpy in ready made underwear. I also have an insulin pump so I’m thinking of making a little pocket to use while sleeping. Thanks for the breakdown Ann.

Oh yes! For sure using ribbed fabric folded in half to finish the waist and legs just like a t-shirt collar is a great finishing option!

I think this looks awesome but I hate ironing (can’t stand the heat) so no, I’d never would want this in my actual wear-it closet if I have to press those seems open every time. I even skip ironing shirts and blouses altogether if I can but don’t think that would look nice with this one. Also loved the flower broche and the black and white shirt you made
@AnnTilleyHandmade2 ай бұрын
The black and white shirt has certainly got a lot more wears than the red! I wore the red shirt again on my birthday but just spritzed and air dried so I didn’t have to iron again. Def not practical but certainly a fun make!

Hi, any tips to alter ostamy undies please, I have a large hernia behind my ostamy, so the left side is about 5" bigger than the right side and the back is so high it cuts into my waist. Any ideas would be great. Thanks ❤
@AnnTilleyHandmade2 ай бұрын
Are you looking to alter existing or create new? Off-hand, I would say perhaps ordering larger undies and then taking them in to fit would be needed to keep from pinching. Might be easier to start from scratch so you can customize the tightness of the elastics and create an asymmetrical pattern based on your needs.
@eileenfb19482 ай бұрын
Would it be possible to copy out the pattern as we would if our hips were one size and bust another size but instead, this time the left side would be one size and the right another size tapered somehow to blend together. Sounds tricky - I hope you find a way. ❤
@AnnTilleyHandmade2 ай бұрын
certainly! Makes sense to me. You’ll want to just transition as smoothly as you can and be fearless! You just have to let go of what it’s supposed to look like and focus on what your body needs!

Hi Ann! I am considering buying this pattern, but what's holding me back is that I have never bought any pattern before, digital or otherwise. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding what I'm gonna receive if I buy the digital pattern, and if I'm gonna be able to make sense of it. I live far away from the US, so the digital pattern makes sense to buy! I've seen the physical pattern in use in this and other videos, but would you be able to do a short video about what the digital pattern contains and how to use it?

Your machine should not be skipping stitches! I have had the Janome Cover Stitch Machine, 1000CP, for several years. It was skipping stitches, and I took it back to the place where it was purchased. The timing was not right, so after it was adjusted, no more skipping. I really like mine!

It just seems to be skipping when the machine stalls over thicknesses. But still have much to learn. Would love to try other cover-stitch machines to see how they compare.
