Great Video My wife and I are travelling to London soon after having visited the city twice over the last couple of years. We have had a Thames river trip and been on the cable car and have seen many of the ‘free’ tourist sites. Many other sites though are very expensive, but a friend suggested The London Pass, which I had never heard of before. It seems quite a good deal, as long as you are willing to visit as many attractions as possible on each day. Regards from Whitley Bay

Hi! There was still water in the lake when we visited it last April but it was at a lower level. It didn’t impede us from enjoying the lake though. We spent about an hour at the Wenwu Temple.

If Luxembourg is rich, why don't people want to live there?

It might be because the housing there is very expensive. So we read that most people commute there to work from neighbouring countries.

Ah, you didn't visit Edinburgh's New Town, the residential area of which starts just behind Princes Street (i.e., a couple minutes' walk from the Scott Monument). That is too bad, as it is fabulous, with the Gallery of Modern Art, Water of Leith (a small river walk), Dean Village, the village of Stockbridge and the Royal Botanic Garden plus more within easy walking distance along the Water of Leith. Also, though the Scott Monument was repaired some years ago, the matter of cleaning is a problem for two basic reasons. First, there is oil within the stone that comes to the surface, where it collects dirt from the air (Edinburgh air is MUCH cleaner since coal fires were banned), so the stone is naturally 'dirty'. Second, any attempt to clean the stone would require high-pressure spraying. Because sandstone is porous and soft, the pressure of the water and effects of the detergent would erode the stone. This would be a serious problem for the many decorative bits. There was a time when the sandstone buildings in the city centre were all black. But in the 1980s and early 90s many were spraywashed to reveal their naturally golden sandy colour.

Sorry to bug you with one more question! I plan to walk from my hotel, Alishan Kaofeng, to see the sunset at the train station. Will the walk back be dark or are there ample street lights?

The main tourist area to the train station is properly lit and so if your hotel is within the tourist area then it shouldn’t be an issue.
