I’m 60 now I was 11 when I willed Grundy home I remember listening to him win Dewhurst on radio the year before he had tremendous courage as well as ability

Golden Fleece cut through the field like a hot knife thru butter no wonder Eddery considered Golden Fleece the best horse he ever rode what an acceleration what a horse

Godlen Fleece did what Dancing Brave couldn't do. Come from a long way back and win easily. DB was being pushed from when he entered the straight. Golden Fleece travelling easy all the way.

Golden Fleece was clearly a top class racehorse, but it has to be said that the opposition was poor. Sadly, Golden Fleece died before he could make his mark at stud.

what made this race better than any other race was the fact , was that even the sixth horse broke the previous truck record

It's very simple: to produce as fast-run race as possible, and maximise Bustino's chances of outstaying Grundy.

This race shows what a class act the triple Ascot Gold Cup winner Sagaro was as Sagaro beat Bustino 2l in a race in France the previous season over 1m 4f a full mile short of the gold cup distance.

I think that the Grand Prix de Paris was 1m 7f in those days .

"The best horse I have ever sat on" . If I was a horse whisperer, I am sure GF would of said the same of the great Pat Eddery as a human. I would love to have heard his thoughts to compare with Dancing Brave whom he rode in 1986. Rest in peace Mr Eddery.
