Great example for using this scale is Miles Davis on "Starpeople" from 1982, and also all his later versions of this tune.

Hey, just a small question. I have some trouble slurring down from high E down to G. The C always comes out when I don’t want it to. How can I get a clean slur without hitting some unwanted notes in between?
@JeffLewisTrumpet
@JeffLewisTrumpet 3 күн бұрын
@@ItsUrGirl616 I know what you mean! It’s a tricky balance between airspeed, tongue level, and keeping the same amount of pressure on your face throughout the slur so the middle partials don’t pop out.

Do you mean the backing track? I used the “blues” setting on the iReal Pro play along app.

Very cool, Jeff. On the first 8 or so bars, do you just play the low, middle, or higher notes on each measure?

Thanks Mike! I played one trumpet on each part. One on the high, one on the middle, and one on all the Low notes.

I have a question regarding embouchure. I have been practicing the trumpet with no progress gotten yet. I’ve been playing for 3 years. How do you roll in lips without any lip over teeth.
@JeffLewisTrumpet

Sorry to hear that! Can you tell me more about what you mean by “without lip over teeth”? Also, rolling in is not for everyone.

@@JeffLewisTrumpet this issue has been going on for 3 years. I’d say I am preforming at professional level but I need some correction. The question is when you roll in your lips how do you get it to not overlap your teeth. Do I use my tongue to push it away so it does not over lap the teeth?

 I would try subtle micro adjustments. Perhaps try not rolling in and see what happens or maybe adjusting your jaw position. See if that helps.

Nice! Silly question: the keys written there (F, G7...) are for trumpet or for piano? (in short: as a trumpet player, do I have to transpose them to Bb, or are they already fine like this?)
@JeffLewisTrumpet
@JeffLewisTrumpet Ай бұрын
No need to transpose. They are in trumpet key. And, not a silly question! Thank you for checking it out.

I also go back and forth between the same two mouthpieces. Both are great. The Lead, I use if 90% of the notes are above E. It definitely helps with hitting high notes more comfortably. They're also closer together so I find I slip higher than I should sometimes (just gotta work on my ear for those notes). And yeah, I have two embouchures, like you mentioned. I do find the high note one still plays lower notes fine. It's a matter of practicing out my original embouchure so there's only one.

I basically do the same thing and I’m constantly trying to iron out the two registers. Thanks for sharing!

Gotcha. Think of it this way, anytime you see a half diminish chord, play the notes that are located in the major scale 1/2 step above. It will always sound good!

Being able to play what you hear in your head is extremely difficult at first. It takes years for most of us to get even close. I wouldn’t worry about that in the beginning. I would just try to apply the knowledge and see how it goes. Baby steps!

@@JeffLewisTrumpet I'm amazed when I hear guys just rippin through solos on a track or during a performance, I wonder how are they able to do that just seemingly on the spot. In my mind those guys have to be thinking 100 mph, with flawless execution. And just listening to you and how break it all down and how you fly through the different chords and progressions I realize I missed so much in school.
