Am speechless. Night time, karaoke runners! You couldn’t make it up. Well done 😅

You’ve got to train for the race that you’re going run. We shall sing ourselves from Meriden to Banbury through the night. Sometimes I wish that I took up Scrabble as a hobby.
@LizSmith292Ай бұрын
@@MartinLeeGBR My son does something similar where we live in Suffolk. I play online Scrabble- totally safe and no singing required!!! Good Luck for your race.

2/3 was great. Once we left the main road on Boars Hill it became more of a chore than an adventure.

@@SwimBikeRunStu Thanks I’ll keep an eye out for the event. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to reach Meriden from Birmingham International station.

It’s a great event that I’ve run a couple of times. Haven’t run properly for a few months and going to use this as something to train for. See you on the “start line”.

Sounds absolutely bonkers Martin, but well done for giving it a try. So admire your enthusiasm, but using McDonald’s for navigation, really! Looking forward to the next episode 😂
@MartinLeeGBR3 ай бұрын
I know. Normally I plan and navigate by pubs or cake shops. But running through the night will require a different approach. Better to find out in advance that there are two McDonald's close by than risk turning up at the closed one at 3am.

Escape From Meriden sounds like a great event. Does it really sell out in 15 minutes?
@MartinLeeGBR3 ай бұрын
There are only a few hundrer places available. You'll need to know the day and hour that race entries open to get a place, they sell out faster than tickets for Glastonbury. Last year there were a handful of early entry places available if you could complete the online pub quiz from hell (no other way of describing it). See: escapefrommeriden.co.uk/

Seems rather ambitious - i *walked* about 15 miles/day while doing the Ridgeway - and that was murder! Running 30 would be good going. 50 surely impossible. Anyway - good luck, and keep us in the loop ..
@MartinLeeGBR3 ай бұрын
I've run 50 miles once before. This will be my first attempt at going further. No guarantee that I'll succeed. I've planned various escape routes if I've had enough and need to stop.

Hi again Martin. Have just completed the Wychwood Way and wondered if you’d done it. Really enjoyed the whole walk other than the very poor signposting. The handbook was very informative but useless for navigation. You’re so lucky living near the Evenlode Valley, it’s stunning.
@MartinLeeGBR3 ай бұрын
Not yet. I was planning to run it over two days this summer, but it doesn't quite fit with current training. Have you looked at the Evenlode Way? ldwa.org.uk/ldp/members/show_path.php?path_name=Evenlode
@LizSmith2923 ай бұрын
@@MartinLeeGBR I heard you mention it on one of your videos but didn’t pick it up. Certainly looks a possibility for next year so have ordered the maps. I live on the Essex/Suffolk border so my walking trips are 3/4 days stay locally. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi, I took me 14 hours 31 minutes. Although apparently 2 hours of that was spent 'not moving' i.e. in a pit stop. Its a great day out in the countryside, all you have to do is keep going. I'll be sure to be watching your dot. Good luck.

Thank you for your post and well done. I will be attempting it this year, my first Ultra. What advice would you give me for the Chester 50
@MartinLeeGBR9 ай бұрын
In retrospect what worked well for me was keeping to a much faster pace than I anticipated over the first half of the course. This gave me confidence and the option of walking the second half without having to worry about cut-offs. Teaming up with a fellow runner after Bridge Trafford was invaluable, trying to find the route in the dark wasn't easy.. Good luck.

Cheers. In retrospect, I can see what went wrong the first time and what went right with the second. My tips: - Do the recce runs offered by GB Ultras, being familiar with the course really helps. - High training volume, just do lots of weekly mileage. - On the day run with people it helps pass the time and keep you distracted. Good luck with it.
