What I did after watching this I got a tip from the shrine to press R1 and I did pressed it almost every time I attacked and I just beat him. Way easier with R1 combo as it maintains your Ki(Your stamina).

Its been a while, but I think it would have been moderately upgraded - I recorded this on my first play through, so would only have had whatever materials were available up to that point.

believe it or not, this fight has been one of the fights I really enjoyed in this game. Died many times. Tried many strategies. I did it finally. I guess the devs wanted to teach new players such as myself something about poise and pvp. I don't know...

Years later I came to this video, and it worked. Two handed helps stagger him. Don't bother blocking, just roll forward through his attack and then hit him.

I struggled so hard. But then realised that you need to dodge backwards and not into the attacks like darksouls games (which i always thought was a dumb mechanic anyway). As soon as I kept distance and waited for his jump attacks, I beat him straight away and only took a couple hits.

Thanks for the comment - I'm in light stance in this video, so when I dodge, its just a little side step, which is really quick. LIght stance is excellent for bosses in this game - that sidestep thing works great, because you can get hits in almost immediately, rather than having to wait to stand back up again...

I made the mistake of beating the game 3 times so I’m on NG+2 before I even bought the old hunters DLC. If I get hit by 2 attacks I’m dead. Lowest I got him down was the last 25%

Hmm… I know a few people in that situation. I think you have 3 options. 1. Find a great chalice dungeon and farm until you have significantly upgraded / maxed your stats. 2. Keep at it and hope for a better run. 3. Create a new character, run through the game and try it in NG Good luck!!

He is really hard. My instinct before this video was always to retreat, and he killed mine most times. When I started rolling forward through his attacks, it became much more manageable

Have you tried different amour sets? He is a massive pain in the butt - this fight took me a lot of attempts - if you look, I’m literally drinking health potions constantly

Don’t dodge too early - also try to go diagonally forwards through his attack Rolling backwards is not your friend, as the end of his attack will kill you

So i couldnt do this fight even with cheesing it with the whirly gig, so i went back to the normal game and GRINDED like hell to get to skill and strength 50 and fully upgrade my original weapon - saw spear - so that it does like 377 base damage but its actually like 405. Thanks to the tips in this video (mostly the no lock on cos i was already dodging into him to get to his legs) i beat him in what i believe was under 30 seconds but im probably wrong, but definitely under a minute, and as soon as he was down for visceral on the 2nd faze he had like zero health left. Thank you so much, this was worse than the rom fight for me and that took me forever so cheers for the tips
