Noble false widows are absolutely ferocious spiders. I have a young juvenile in my room who was ganged up on by two cellar spiders (and these guys are proficient hunters of spiders twice their size), and the false widow somehow managed to pull a leg off both attackers and they both backed off. Keep in mind I've watched these cellar spiders kill tegenaria and wolf spiders like they're nothing, and I've also watched a juvenile cellar take out a juvenile false widow. I have no doubt if the juvenile were an adult, the cellars would've ended up as the prey. The old false widow that used to live in that web lived up to the hype as well: I've watched her chase off giant house spiders three times her size, although granted, the males are hungry, dazed and completely nonaggressive in the autumn when they're looking for a mate, and they also tend to be a stupid bunch and don't calculate their attacks very well. The false widow in this video is small for a female; I have one in the bathroom about twice the size of her. The kinds of big female false widows we have in the UK could very easily fold a true widow. If we ever get black widows or redbacks invading the UK, our false widows will make very short work of them.
