Awesome! Have you had to change for flip the shear bars on this chipper? I can't figure out how to take them out.
@thearborbarber
@thearborbarber 4 ай бұрын
Yeah I have! It’s a real PIA. There are two shear bars on this chipper actually. There is two bolts on the hydraulic tank side of the chipper. And then there are two bolts on the bottom of the chipper underneath the belt housing. You also have to take the springs off the feed wheel and jack that up so you can reach inside and pull them out. It’s annoying af.

@@thearborbarber Thanks a lot. It's taking me a few day to figure out how to do that. Amazingly this is not covered in the operator's or maintenance manuals. I noticed there is a screw thread in the top of that roller housing. Do you know if that is used to attached something like an eye-bolt to pull and lift the wheel up, or do you think it's for a long bolt to screw into the top to lift it up, kinda like a screw jack. You know there not a single video on the subject anywhere that I can find.
@thearborbarber

@@jimw7043 that’s a good question. I’m gonna look at that. Because Ive been taking the springs off to lift it manually this whole time. Youre right, there is very little info on there on the maintenance of this chipper.

How do you like the 700 For tree work? Just got a chip truck and looking for a chipper I found a 700 for a good price, when I worked for a company they had a 12 in bandit that was super nice but they are expensive, from your experience would you just get the 700 for starting or would you rather spend extra to get a more powerful diesel chipper?

I bought this in July and I’m really happy with it, it’s exactly what I need and it gets the job done. It chips really well and it will chip a 6 inch log. I just started my company and I get a lot of smaller pruning and removal jobs.

My project a little larger. Some huge old very sappy pine tree 3-6" limbs have been a pain! Hopefully better technique & more patience from viewing your video will make tomorrow a lot better and my helper, a novice, will be able to take over after watching me for an hour or so. His chainsaw skills are fair 🙄 I'm very production oriented when renting and there's Lots of work to Get Done Upon seeing how sLow from your video tho still productive, I should have rented much bigger chipper --85 hp diesel-- to easily & quickly eat my near endless large tree limbs and then more slowly munch limbless trunks up to 12" for trees not used for firewood. I have tractor with grapple for loading trunks if needed. I need to watch that chipper in action before renting! With limbs 3 or less inch I sometimes cheat and use my bush hog if I can afford to leave it a little messy like in a fairly wooded non grass / landscaped area

Yeah, don't think you need a F-350 Dual Diesel to do work like this. I accidentally hauled (thanks to the operator at the pit) over 10k worth of gravel in a dump trailer (another 2.5k weight) with my 04' F150 with a 5.4. The truck didn't get moving fast and had a really hard time stopping. It's only rated to 8700 or so. Point being, the 1/2 tons do a lot more without breaking than people think. The old 1 tons from the 70's, 80's and early 90's have less tow ability HP or torque than most 1/2 tons these days.

Lovely job ! Try tying the end of your lowering rope to a stationary piece of the tree you're working in, attach pieces you're lowering to this as if it were a washing line using a sling or rope through a natural crotch, one guy on the ground can lower pieces smoothly between the two trees this way instead of you setting up a whole new rope, pulley, friction etc. Saves lots of time !

Nice work but why go up drt when you could've set up that canopy tie or basal tie from the getgo..plus then if you have the gear, you couldve ascended much faster with a foot and knee ascender. Pro tip for anybody reading: Tie the chainsaw to the rope 2 feet off the ground so the first few steps slide right through the ascenders from the chainsaw weighing down the rope. Thats the only way i do it now unless its a small tree. But i guess its just preferance..To each their own. The extra rigging line munter hitch from the Canopy was a nice touch. Good work dude!
@thearborbarber
@thearborbarber Жыл бұрын
Thanks! yes it is preference, I don't like having my ascender on with my spurs and I prefer climbing drt when removing a tree. If I am pruning ill run srt all day long but basal tying on a removal is very dangerous imo.
@DigitalTownSquare
@DigitalTownSquare Жыл бұрын
@TheArborBarber yea I always run a canopy anchor for removals. Dont know why i said basal for a removal lol. Never a good idea to have the basal line vulnerable to big wood hitting it or getting tangled with the rigging line. I love using basals when I'm pruning, and I don't feel like getting both ends of the rope down the same passage of the tree for drt or srt canopy anchor. Usually saves a good amount of time.

@@thearborbarber thanks for the response, so they maybe have 60 hours total work time in them, bought them a year ago after purchasing buck leather uppers which allowed the spur shank to twist around my calf and cause blisters, so I saw the opsals and thought hey those won’t twist, as for height I have them two finger width below my knee cap when bent, and I got a bruise right where the upper back corner of aluminum is on legs, thought about lowering them, again thanks

Idk about this one. You sacrificed the other tree just to speed up a bit. Could've went smaller, rigged the tree off itself entirely, and run a tagline, and the whole process would've gone a lot smoother. Yes, slower but smoother. I'm glad to see the safety. But property preservation in this one is non-existent when it should be a priority. Don't get lazy. Price jobs accordingly so that you can do the job safely and not have to take shortcuts like you did here. Be a skilled Arborist. Not a good tree guy.
@thearborbarber
@thearborbarber Жыл бұрын
Hey I appreciate the feedback, but I couldn’t disagree with you more. The operation went smoothly, the removal took 3 hours as a two man operation. I have one groundie who is a rookie. Rigging directly over a pool house and using a tagline isn’t do-able with limited man power and skill. I am preserving property by eliminating the ability of wrecking a pool house and two vinyl fences. I will choose to rig into another tree rather than over property every time. In hindsight I would choose to use a tagline earlier into the removal. But the big maple sustained 0 damage.
