I discovered this song back in 2017, when Brandon Sanderson said he was listening Alive while writing Oathbringer. I was in high school back then. Now I'm in my masters, waiting for Wind and Truth coming out tomorrow, but still listening to this awesome music!

#1 Don't compare yourself to other, or your past self... You can learn about John Williams, or Magnus Carlsen. Be curious about how they think, and how they approach things. Yet, don't be afraid to start your own niche. You don't have to be like everyone else. (Nobody else sounds like Phil.)

This.. song.. is.. a.. musical... masterpiece!! I have listened to it already many many times.. loveeee the lyrics "how can death mourn his son".. the many transitions and the counter melodies that slowly creep up in the background. Love how it breaks out into a third movement with that majestic 80s synth!!.. only to be responded to by some whimsical oboes that resolve into echoes and detuning. It's brilliant..
@MusicOfPhil2 ай бұрын
@@meditationaudio1518 thank you for this analysis. The creation of this track was an absolute whirlwind in my life. I’d started it living in a valley in the north of Mexico. The track was originally going to be a more pop oriented orchestra track, kind of like Alive. That clarinet part at the end was played by my ex and was going to be the main chorus, but writing is always so unpredictable. Later that year (2020) I had absolutely no money and stayed with my ex in her family town and finished the song there on my laptop. Her family would listen as I worked on it and in a fun way give suggestions and it became like this track that glued us together. When I listen to it I can remember that time so clearly
