That was both sweet AND funny at the same time! "Goonies," still rules to this day, in no short order due to Kerri Green herself-in addition to the wonderful, long-lasting storyline, and just the fine talents behind, and in front of, the camera. Kudos to ALL involved in that all-time great movie. 🙏❤️😁

I met both Sean Astin and Keri Green. I met Sean at Awesome Con in DC in 2014 during a Q and A I asked him why he took the role of Mikey in The Goonies and he said because he liked the script and because he got to “Kiss the girl” aka Keri Green. The correct answer is "whatever is best for the show/movie." Sitting in the theater, I'm not judging a movie on whether or not the actor is actually disabled. If they do their job well, I won't think of it. If an able-bodied person can play the part better than a disabled person, they should get the job. And vise versa. The art should come first.

I feel like The MCU, is going to go in a direction like this. Can Matt Murdock be daredevil and be happy at the same time? That’s a good way to bring him out of the darkness and into the light. He doesn’t have to be gritty or bloody to be a hero. Perhaps an Avenger will help him with that. Like Barnes or Wilson? Becoming a better symbol in the light.

@@jameshaggerty8348 true, but Frank Miller also put emphasis on Daredevil's religion. I'm not catholic, but I know suffering it's part of catholicism. Also, now Daredevil can be partner with spiderman, who also is a character that has live a lot of bad situations in comics. About Daredevil doesn't being bloody, I don't think it doesn't mean he's not the best symbol of light. He has his own code. I definitely think disabled actors should play disabled characters except for characters like daredevil since I don’t know how easy it would be for someone who’s blind to play that role not to mention daredevil can technically see just not out of his eyes
@Blitz-dm3kv
@Blitz-dm3kv 2 жыл бұрын
Why do you think that disabled actors *should* play disabled characters?? Isn’t the whole point of acting to play someone that you're not?! I get that you wouldn't cast a white guy to play Black Panther since the characters race is essential to who they are, but I don't understand why non-disabled actors aren't allowed to play disabled characters. I really don't see an issue with it whatsoever.

@@Blitz-dm3kv here's my perspective, I would not say that non-disabled actors arent allowed to play disabled characters, but rather it should be that more disabled actors should be cast to play disabled characters.(Also slight caveat but i think the whole point of acting is not to play someone that you're not but rather play a role, sometimes that role might be very similar to the person playing it) 1. Representation! It would be really cool for young children to have not only a fictional character on screen be disabled like them but also the actor! 2. Disabled people have different struggles or different experiences than non-disabled actors. Yes non-disabled actors can try and learn from disabled people what these experiences/behaviors/struggles are but they would never be able to say they know it 100% because they have not experienced it themself. For example, you wouldn't cast a white person to play a black person in a movie talking about racism towards black people not only because of skin color but also because the white person would not have personally experienced this racism towards black people since they are not black. Yea those are my thoughts if you need me to elaborate or clarify just lmk.

It's definitely not as feasible for the Daredevil role. People will say "use stunt doubles more", which will just increase work for VFX artists and editors during post because it can double/triple the scenes they have to edit the actor's face in the shot since with the Daredevil mask, half of the face is still shown and recognizable (in the show, Charlie did 80% of his own stunts which greatly lessened the amount of editing in post needed). Marvel Studios(and other big studios that produce major blockbusters) already have a reputation of overworking but underpaying non-unionized VFX editors and workers, how much more if their workload was tripled? Plus the logistics on set itself if they had a blind actor in the Daredevil role, it really isn't a stationary role, Matt Murdock is constantly on the move, and I think it would be really dangerous, as well as hard to manage the mise en place during scenes with a blind actor. I also agree that disabled actors should play disabled roles as much as possible, but I don't think the Daredevil role is the hill to die on for this fight. Stan Lee himself has recognized that the Daredevil character really isn't a good representation of people on the actual blindness spectrum, since if we look closely at the premise of the character, Matt Murdock can even perceive better than sighted people. Plus, for anyone trying to cancel Charlie for taking the role, he did his best to be respectful with his treatment of playing the character. He spent 3 months observing a blind man who served as a consultant for the show just so he can get the mannerisms right. Plus he has literally won an award (called the Hellen Keller Award) from the American Foundation for the Blind themselves, so clearly he did something right. I don't think people should be cancelling him over this.
@baronhelmutzemo8361
@baronhelmutzemo8361 2 жыл бұрын
@@cardboardcreationsart the Daredevil role is different though. No one on the blindness spectrum can relate to him and how he traverses through life, because even sighted people can't (since he can perceive better than sighted people). I think for other blind character roles the fight to get actual blind actors in them should definitely be furthered, but not with the Daredevil role. Also Charlie himself was awarded the Hellen Keller Award by the American Foundation for the Blind for his respectful portrayal. If they thought it was wrong on his end that he got the role, they wouldn't have gone out of their way to honor him in a ceremony.

Netflix? Actors form the right ethnic background??????? GET OUT OF HERE!!!! What a pussy... Fighting for his Ferrari. Netflix got a major sociel engineering objective. They will add gay people all over the place... If you ask them to remake Friends, they will add a black dude and extra gay characters, even when it's not needed. I say they have a negative result in me, because I freaking hate it. I really feel the suit in the meeting room saying "We need a gay couple and a Chinese dude." Not because they care, but because... It's a damn tragedy the Netflix shows got cancelled, they were all really good for the most part. I have failed you.... but I won’t abandon you to the dark side!” - Anakin: “THAT’S NOT YOUR DECISION TO MAKE!!” - Obi-Wan: “WELL THEN YOU *ARE* LOST!!”

Thank you for recording this particular question/answer. I've been wondering myself about it, and this is one of the highlights of the series/character for me, which BTW, I didn't even remember from the movie! I usually get annoyed or angry about Hollywood's portrayal of Catholicism/ Catholic characters, too cliche and cringe-worthy all the time. I find this one of what little I've seen, very refreshing and pretty accurate so far, or at least not that .

I agree. As a Catholic myself I find parallels with Matt's character and how he handles faith with my own struggles with faith. I just absolutely loved the conversations Matt has with Father Lantom who is played amazingly well. He was one of the characters I missed in S2. Also, Drew Goddard who is the creator of the show is himself catholic so he was keen that the show try to avoid the stereotypes.
