I came across this video on the website of this synagogue where I was considering attending as I recently moved to Montreal. There is indeed a war but it is not between Jews and the rest of the world it is between those who wish to be tribal and see things in terms of tribalism and groups versus those who want justice for all regardless of which group they belong to. These two types can be found within any group of people. I believe Rav Adam that whatever your intentions this speech is more liable to encourage tribalism than unity. Everyone who criticises Israeli actions is not necessary anti-semtitic and many who do are doing so out of love for Jews and Israel and not hate, though obviously there are those who hate but they are a minority within any group and to suggest otherwise will only serve to divide and fan the flames of hatred further. Hatred is not only against Jews. There are attacks on black people, Muslims, Gay people, etc. The neo nazi hitlist is a long one and we would be better to reach out and show solidarity with others who are attacked rather than pretending it is the whole world against us and no one else. This stifling criticism by uttering the word anti-semitism every time is also just frankly not only not true but it is just not helpful and gives the impression we Jews are not open to discussing the possibility of us doing anything wrong whatsoever, which like everyone else we do of course. To be Jewish is to question, discuss, search truth and yes argue and contradict as I am doing now as a brother. And there is nothing self hating about the Jew who is writing these sentences I can assure you. All the best! ADAM FRANK

Almost the whole world is against the Jews. Try living in Israel with an anti-tribalist position it is difficult enough to live in a Jewish community anywhere with Jew baiting, extreme hatred regardless of all our empathy for Black Gays Muslims and so on, the world just does not care we are villified regardless of our views or well-intended actions or movements. And they forget that we marched alongside Martin Luther King Jr. for the Blacks, when there is an attack on a Mosque we sympathize and I have personally gone to the rally to protest this violence with Rabbi Boris and representation from liberal-progresssive Jews but this does not make a lick a difference for those who embolden themselves with their anti-semitic tropes and spews of call for genocide for the entire Jewish population. Are you supposed to just say no I do not belong to any tribe so persecute Jews as you wish???

Thank you for this beautiful song. I don't know of Hasan Ben Ari's Shvurei Lev, but listening to this choir singing this song brings heaven to earth and takes our hearts to heaven.

Its time to bring our talents and resources to our only real homeland, and its not Canada or the US. The only place where it will be appreciated. Altogether too many Jews also thought Germany was a wonderful "civilized" place back in the 1920s and 1930s too, and waited too long to try to leave.

Fr John was a true disciple of Christ, he was a rebel with a just cause. His cause was ecumenism. He was chosen to teach about love , and find God in dialogue. We all have a common history together. Father will be sadly, horribly missed. Now who, I ask, will take up his torch? I pray we will make you proud father, may you RIP.

Hi, I very much enjoyed this , as I never knew that the Philippines had opened their doors to fleeing jews at a most difficult time ...Sad to say jewish people fleeing to save their lives were turned away from many countries...Very hard to believe that America and Canada were one of these countries.. You couldn"t have had a better speaker...
