Simon mentioned McKinsey. Therefore, I want to highlight another "interesting" story with McKinsey. This is a real story: When Steve Jobs introduced iPhone for first time, potential competitors incl. Samsung, LG, and others observed how the smartphone market will evolve over the next 5 years. LG Electronics did not know any answers. Therefore, LG Electronics hired McKinsey to investigate the potential of the smartphone market. McKinsey came to the conclusion that the smartphone market is just a hype and will never ever replace the mobile market (Mobile market: Nokia phones, flip phones). LG Electronics hired a lot of McKinsey employees and made their bold strategy against the smartphone market. But later on, LG Electronics recognized that the smartphone market will be a huge mass market and stay so. LG Electronics was late to the party and could never catch up with their smartphones. Today? Their smartphone business does not exist anymore.

As a Norwegian, I will say this. Mr Tangen is walking on eggshells. He came up through the offshore banking system. The biggest money laundering system on the planet. A system allowing the plundering of the world and the reason for BREXIT. The proceeds of every crime imaginable cleaned by investment funds such as his old company. A company which he was FORCED to sell, not put in a blind trust as he wanted to do. Imagine that. The manager of the biggest sovereign fund in the entire world owns a private investment fund, and the guy thought he was entitled to be in that position. If he deviates the slightest from his mandate, if he gets any suspicion of inside trading directed at him, he will be crucified. The entire nation was enormously suspicious on how he got the job with accusations of 'greasing' the wheels and thanks to the direct support from the then PM he got the job. The same PM was later caught in inside trading during her tenure through her husband after she left office. Mr Tangen should be very humble & very careful NOT to be caught in any foul trading. There are many that will crucify him in an instant. His old company is under constant watch. If there is a strong correlation of their trades with the fund he is running, he will fry. The fact that he is a Christian does not help either. They have a bad rap when it comes to money.

I still do not understand how these endowments work. If one targets 5% in the long term, why not put it in a Vanguard all world and call it a day? If one wants to reduce the volatility- diversify 50% with long treasuries, gold and PE and call it a day?

I scour from A-Z globally and find that a perenially profitable company that allocates capital in the way Einhorn suggests and is also trading at 5X earnings is a very rare bird ... in fact I'd say it doesn't exist ... at least in 2024 froth era. It seems you can have two of three: most always profitable, great capital allocation, cheap ... can't have all three.

I have been a Fundsmith investor from the outset and have never regretted it. Now retiring as I approach my 70th year I will look to start to withdraw to supplement my Pensions and Capital Expenditure. Despite continuous research over the years I have never come across any Active Fund Manager who meets my needs as much as Terry and his team. The one thing go get with FS is no BS - if its bad - its bad and if its good - its good. All investors should remind themselves on a daily basis - there is only ONE guaranteed certainty - Markets will rise and fall BUT not necessarily in that order!
