I'm amazed that the blades are not regulated, they clearly have a huge advantage

I have had the same problem with ASC, they are a hive of nepotists! Randall foils solve most of the inherit problems that come with asymmetric blades and get them working harder.They are a very useful reference for rigging your boat as well!

You have to have been a pretty experienced sculler / rower to appreciate the subtle deficiencies of the ergo-type machines. The bio-rower is obviously the most realistic and appropriate land based trainer. I have yet to find a U.K. distributor or agent?

Greetings Peter! Aram and I will be at Henley 2024 at Barns Bar commercial area. Come and visit. You'll see that the difference is stark. The Biorower is a like for like simulator of a single scull. The chain mechanism of a C2 makes it a linear motion. This alone is the leading cause of rib stress injury in junior and elite rowers.

I really want one - but at 6 and a half grand, it cost more than my car.

Consider the cost of back surgery after injury using a direct line chain and handle machine. Most common cause of elite rowers dropping out of the sport.

If one doesn't know correct technique, then yes, that's a risk. As I said, I'd love one, just cannot justify spending that amount.@@ianjosephrandall

They Said that E spot will become an Olympic category but lightweight Rowling will be Cut Off This is definetly heading Into the wrong direction

Plenty of lightweights have gone heavyweight and been competitive at the very highest level without limiting their bodies or encouraging young athletes to stunt their growth or get eating disorders, don’t know if there’s a problem with this tbh

Yeah ever since seeing Stefanos Ntouskos I've been wandering what the point of the lightweight category is even for. Like, why specifically 72.5kg? Just such a random number and random category to add to an already stacked sport in terms of boat classes.

@@trenty6175 Agreed, and the women's number is even more restrictive, causes all kinds of health problems and it's totally arbitrary. bit of nostalgia for all the history in it is understandable, but I think it makes sense to limit it, and now the whole lightweight "field" is in the double it makes for very interesting racing there

if ya take a car for a test drive and like it, because its better than what you have why not try these , i did and i feels like cheating a bit its that good, i tied them and told my rowing colleagues and now they also are believers , what have ya got to loose ask someone who has then for a test row and see what i mean what have a ya got to lose

Re: "I received a great deal of ridicule over my design." (10:53) What is it about rowers that causes them to be universally hostile to new ideas? There are many examples of this. I am not an OTW rower - nevertheless, a simple means to maintain proper and consistent blade depth throughout the stroke makes complete sense to me. The differing attitudes towards innovation between cyclists and rowers is striking, and is evidenced by the huge advances in bicycle technology over the last few decades, compared to the glacial pace of advances in rowing and rowing exercise technology over the same time period.

Robert Edmondson Dear Robert, I have been amazed by your design and engineering skills. I imagine, and saddened, that you must have suffered years of hostility towards your designs. I think that rowing has struggled to progress simply because we humans are herd creatures and throwing us in a crew boat only makes it worse. To my delight, it is Masters scullers who are the greatest adopters and advocates of my design... we are also starting to see schools. Write to me and we’ll correspond further [email protected]

For years I have said that the standard, rigid, single-piece rowing ergometer handle is a bio-mechanical abomination. Both rowers and non-rowers, have scoffed at my criticism. They argue that injuries are a result of bad technique. But technique cannot overcome deficiencies of design. It is good to have my assessment confirmed by an expert rower.

Thankyou Ian for your kind response to my comment under another of your videos. The referenced herd instinct among rowers is particularly pervasive with respect to the standard rowing ergometer handle. I was astonished to hear a professor of bio-mechanics (speciality: rowing), and presumably an expert on human/machine interfaces, reject all suggestions that the rigid, single-piece handle could be improved. In groupthink solidarity with unlettered erg users, he defended that stone-age implement as if it was an engineering marvel. Thanks for the communications invite. I'll be in touch.

Yes, the biomechanics don't match the human body, similar to doing bench presses with a straight bar, rather than with dumbbells.

What blades are those? C2 smothie 2? How did you attatch the foils and can I attatch them to my C2 Fat2 (skinny) sculling oars? Would appreciate a response :)
@ianjosephrandall
@ianjosephrandall 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe that's right. We have attached foils to all current C2 blades. See the fitting page on website and also FAQ's which also covers some of this. If you write to me at [email protected] we can have a more detailed conversation. hydrofoiloar.blogspot.com/
