Down Down No.1 January 1975, Bad Company only reached No.15 in the charts and Bachman was No.2 at the end of December and the year end charts were compiled in early December.

I remember going to Holyhead with my mum in 1978. She bought a copy of "You Can't Give Me Love" and left it on the parcel shelf of the car to do the rest of the shopping. By the time we got home, it had melted!! It had warped in the sun but strangely enough, it still played. Try melting a CD or memory stick and see if it still plays. Parents probably still have that and the top two from this year in their collection somewhere.

Such a shame that Rolf Harris destroyed his legacy. I wasn't a year old until August of that year but grew up watching his amazing painting skills on TV.

The nostalgia kick I got from these. 1979 was the year I bought my first singles with my own money. I always thought Are Friends Electric was the first one I bought but a little while ago I saw something that said that Bright Eyes was released first. I was 9. Both would likely have been bought from Woolworths in Holyhead.

Their best song. Surprisingly beautiful. The brass section and harmonies take the band to a new level.

thanks for bringing back such wonderful memories, the world was a better place to live then, and people cared for each other then. not like today where the priority is to kill each other. ☹

That was great thoroughly enjoy this! Some embarrassing ones I bought as a kid have cropped up here, (YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHICH ONES!!!!) but also some that I still like now!! Sadly no mention of the superb follow up to Heartache Avenue by The Maisonettes called “Where I Stand” (the missus told me to write that, she’s holding the gun to my head as i’m typing this! Help!!!)

I was 16 in 1981 and that’s always a pivotal year in anyone’s life above all their musical education. Ultravox, The Human League, Soft Cell, The Specials and similar bands are still remembered but there was a fair amount of dross in that year that is now happily forgotten.

There are some real gems here such as The Sparks, Queen, George McCrae and Carl Douglas but also some real rubbish above all The Wombles and The Bay City Rollers. Without doubt the British charts get better in quality towards the end of the 70s.

1981 no as it is too disputed even with barb figures there is still no official decision on Soft Cell and Human League so I have decided to let it be. and leave the current upload as it is. 1980 and 1982 i will decide in the future whether to redo them after the 70s are finished and 92 and 93 are redone. Even 1977 is disputed as BARB did not do a week 51 weekly chart at Christmas and so the sales for that week are missing.
