A video about helping people build an airplane. Pretty incredible really. Thanks for getting to the point and not making it all about yourself

I am the new, and very proud, owner of Yellow Bird! The workmanship is excellent and the aircraft design is better than I imagined. John and Valerie are the most exceptional hosts and John is a great pilot. I am honored to be a member of the “Excalibur Family”. Tom Karr is like an uncle who is always available for information and help.

A tip, drill a hole, deburr, cleco. drill the rest. deburr, cleco and rivet. You can never have enough clecos! A little patience. Do it right!
@johnklamp69853 жыл бұрын
To follow up, deburr everything, perhaps center punch hole locations then drill, deburr. Deburr all tubing cuts as well.
@derykbeaudreau77613 жыл бұрын
So, don't de-bur the holes after drilling, don't remove any metal shavings that are potentially between the mating pieces, don't use a cleco after drilling the first hole to hold the piece in place to get your next holes more accurate. Noted! Yea don't follow this guy's advice, you'll wind up dead from your wing rib attach points developing fatigue and stress cracks over time. Very good example of poor craftsmanship!

I Love how its called Brand X and it's name is on its wing tip LOL. Just for the record I have researched both planes and find the Excalibur to be a much better built and set up airplane then Brand X.

Gene, that experience that you shared will inspire others, including me. Great looking airplane and your enthusiasm about building and flying the aircraft that you built shows through on your video. It appears that you live at an airpark. Curious to where that is.

Please debur all holes, both sides, if you want it to last.

A center punch would help drill bits from walking. The angle method may not always be reliable for some.

Bravo...Bravo. great job. Love your family. Love your video work. When I move down to Lorida Fl to my new lakefront property, guess what I am going to do, come over to Sebring to meet my new neighbors and have you all fix me up with a custom float plane.

Once finished could I leave that covering unpainted and keep it hangared and fly it for a year to make sure it doesn't come apart, then paint it, or does it have to be painted before flying the plane?
@aronbechiom5654 жыл бұрын
I'm not one to armchair quarterback anything. I'm curious why the first hole wasn't cleco'd, so the other hole could be drilled, then deburred? The same for the rib. Watching shavings get trapped under the rivet head doesn't allow for a proper setting of the rivet. Good video overall.
@echopapacharlie4 жыл бұрын
That's a good point about clecos. It seems to me also that this step would be done faster and more easily in a jig. But I can see how shipping a built wing would be so much more expensive and prone to damage.

Nice Videos, you should know better than letting a child do this process without a respirator. The glue is 50/50 glue and acetone. Acetone is very toxic. Read the MSDS sheet.

Oh I love this family. It's funny, but when I tell people about wanting to fly something with no doors or no canopy, I always say that when we're dreaming about flying or never dreaming about flying at 30,000 feet inside something, were thinking about flying just above everyone's head in the wide open. That's why I'm going to get an Excalibur

Yeah, it is simple, but it would be also much more beautiful if those blue lines from the marker would not be seen. Such a work done but only a half way because of that ugly marker lines... also... where are the face masks for the kids?

@commentatron5 жыл бұрын
@@jessicap3014 Nice job in the video, Jessica; however, you may want to read the Acetone and Poly-Tak containers. Aside from the 'highly flammable' and 'keep out of reach of children' labeling, the Poly-Tak contains MEK and Acetone.
@Skyfighter644 жыл бұрын
@@commentatron MEK and Acetone aren't affected by your average breathing mask. As long as you have decent ventilation, which is important... in other words, having a couple open doors and a fan to move the air.
