Five monsters equal to 22200 hp and is about 16300 kW in power units. In Soviet Union (year 1986) there was a single electric loco of 14000 kW and no climate change and cancer causing fossil fuel fine particles into the air (hydro and nuclear electricity). No noise from the loco - which is a pollutant too. Power electronics deliverd by Stromberg Finland. Which country leads the technology?

Those engines haven't been 'opened up' in a while. Clearing their throats! Great sound. Beats an Electric or Gas-Turbine.

That first loco was sputtering every now and then and would belch out the black smoke. Anyobe know what the issue may have been?

I believe that's heavy carbon deposits on the inside walls of exhaust stack breaking up and burning off as the power is ramped up and the exhaust temp rises rapidly.

I did all this stuff for years with the BNSF going up the Cajon Pass in So Cal. Interesting fact, when there’s helpers pushing on the rear there’s on set of knuckles that aren’t touching somewhere on that train. 😮

That makes sense, at some point between the distributed power, there would be a point where the load is balanced and a 'free point'.

Why did smoke appear only at 1:28? Were the locos not at full power before that?
@LORFCASTERАй бұрын
I dont understand why the heavy black smoke happens when the RPM seems to sound the same. I dont notice a sound of a change in load or RPM. Why the smoke ? ( i understand that dark smoke = unburnt fuel / not enough air )

Moving a train upgrade requires a the locomotives to literally ‘lift’ the entire weight of the train against the force of gravity.
