Love how the subtitles say [music] as the truck comes past the camera. Its true, but maybe not how the auto-subtitle program thinks it is.

What causes that loping? I know some people like it but I'm not a huge fan of it in diesels. Big cam gassers absolutely but for some reason it rubs me wrong on a diesel. Makes me want to fix it.

I really appreciate the design. Badass truck, the old diesels are awesome. One would think that lots of tturbo and charger on a two stroke would be awesome... But it sounds like shit. The ultimate "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

I'm building a twin turbo 8v71 for my bus and was wondering what is the part number for the turbos you chose for your truck
@issaredneck7583 жыл бұрын
love the old detroit’s being used like this, but what if you blowed some shut up? wouldn’t it be like $100000’s of dollars more expensive to fix compared to a cummins or somethin? just because they’ve been out of production so long?
@typgamer3 жыл бұрын
Came across a site that sold parts for detroid diesels. They are surprisingly cheap, probably not a lot of options though.
@richardmaurer90023 жыл бұрын
Detroit’s are the masters of interchangeability. The parts are cheap because most everything in a given engine family interchanges with all the other engines. Limitations would be cylinder blocks and crankshafts. In-line engines use the same flywheel housing, front covers; Vee engines share the same major castings also. Not so much so with the 1-71 and the 2-71, although even these little engines will accept upgrades like 92series sleeves, pistons and injectors. In short, if the truck in the video wolfs that engine, an unlikely occurrence since 8V71s could be set up that way (twin turbos) from the factory, he won’t have any trouble putting it back together economically.
@richardmaurer90023 жыл бұрын
Also, notice how the exhaust gets clear as the turbos spool up. That engine is not working hardly at all. He’s not spinning her a single RPM above the governor. That engine’s not gonna blow.

Issa Redneck..... There is absolutely NO Shortage of parts, re-man, rebuilt & NEW for the Series 53, 71, 92 & 149. The 6V53T/TA, and the 8V92T & TA are Both still in production under Gov't. contracts, (as needed) for the US and other military around the world. Detroit Diesels own Reliabilt parts brand is alive and well, and at this time they are committed "indefinitely" to the four family series I listed previously. The only two series Not supported (by DD), nor have been for many years now, is the 51 and 6-110. There are over a dozen different factory authorized Detroit Diesel re-builders, re-manufacturers in the US alone, where you can obtain Any and ALL parts, kits, and engines from bare blocks to complete engines, either rebuilt or remanufactured. W.W.Williams Co. has the exclusive rights and castings to produce parts (including New heads) for the 6-110 engine, as well as a full line of parts for the other series. There are Dozens more dealers for the 2 cycle Detroits, around the world... especially in the UK, the Netherlands, Africa, Mexico, South & Latin America, as well as several in Canada. Detroit Diesel (2 cycle) parts and engines are Not scarce by any means, if you know where to look... and you really don't have to look very far to find them. There are even NEW heads available now for the 3 & 4-53 series, as well as for the 3, 4 & 6-71 engines.... made in Taiwan & China, and so far... they seem to be working out quite well, so far... from what I've been told. Prices are really quite competitive with any and all other engine parts and engines, out there.... and in some cases, actually cheaper... especially so, when compared to CAT or John Deere engines.
@KuntaKinteToby3 жыл бұрын
Depends on if the person has access to a CNC machine and is good at welding. If they do and are they can fabricate all the parts for much cheaper than replacing cummins parts. That's the beauty of Detroit Diesel the engine is diesel power at its most basic and effective.

Adjust the buffer screw on the back of the governor to take out that surging. Takes about 30 seconds to accomplish. An old diesel mechanic.

Ya need a big old blower on that sucker for those turbos to feed into and give your low end a big boost!
