The "shine cuts" are for air filter clearance... and the lower ones are for easy access to the motor mount bolts (as I'm sure you already knew.. lol) Just felt like putting it out there... Thanks for sharing! ...almost bought a .24 version of this motor to replace my Savage 25's spent motor, but decided against it due to the bump start deal... keeping my eyes out for a deal on a "Big Red". I think one of those would be great for that truck (It's just for "play"... I don't race it or anything)

Hello from NY Todd! Really really enjoy all your videos! I recently acquired two mega zx21 nitro engines. I think they may have association with picco. My question please is do you know anything about these nitro engines. I don't know whether I should keep them or sell them. Thanks you!!
@NitroTalkwithTodd5 күн бұрын
They are picco based engines, made in partnership with Serpent. They were never super popular, so replacement parts are going to be very hard to come by. Other piccos of this era had rod issues, although I've never heard that specially about these. I world say they are great collector's items, and if you decide to run them they do cook. I would say they should only go up in value, especially if new.

@NitroTalkwithTodd thank you for that info. I'm gonna run one and keep one in the collection. I do have a spare rod as well for the new one so I guess im set.

Honestly, I would put the pro 28 in between the HPI f4.6(top) and the k4.6(bottom) But they are all pretty close. I'm not a big fan of the all metal carb, but it tunes well, makes good power and the starting system is robust. Nice find, thanks for watching.

There's two different OS .21 rods, they have the same bore on the bushings but one is 0.5mm longer than the other. The long rod is used in the VZ-B, XZ-B Spec 1, XR-B, and lots of onroad engines The short rod is used in the XZ-B Spec 2/3, B2101-B2105 They sometimes are mixed a bit weird in OS based engines. For example Spower S7 (evo 1 and 2) use the XZ-B Spec 2 piston and liner while using the Spec 1 case and long rod. The Bullitt B218 use the XZ-B Spec 1 liner but short rod.

Thank you for the input. Most of the OS engines I have are 5+ years old, I don't have a lot of contact with the more modern ones.

Thanks for the videos. You have some pretty interesting engines. I've never heard of the OPS engine . Do you know anything else about it? I'm curious as to what factory it was made in. Have you ever run it ? Is it any good? Thanks again for all the videos
@NitroTalkwithTodd12 күн бұрын
I'm not positive, but I think OPS manufactured their engines themselves in Italy. They were pretty popular in the 80s-90s, also made glow plugs. I have heard great things about them, and while it has great top end I was never able to be totally satisfied with the bottom end. After swapping carbs, adjusting head clearance, clutch tuning, etc. I got it darn close. Certainly good enough to race. But it just never felt the way I like.
@rcsendandblast157912 күн бұрын
Hello Sir I have a question about the Italian engines crank shaft and collet size They’re smaller and different than anything I can find here. Even my local hobby shop isn’t sure about the sizes. He thinks it’s the same as trx collets. But it’s not its smaller shaft diameter. Pls help where do I find a place to get me a collet. Pls
@NitroTalkwithTodd12 күн бұрын
I tell you what, I was pretty sure collets were all the same diameter and just different heights. I'll go through my collet drawer and see if I can find any different ones. Are you saying that you are looking for a collet that fits this engine? Thanks for watching
@rcsendandblast157912 күн бұрын
@@NitroTalkwithTodd The 2 engines I have are the Picco .12 Rc speed and the RB Italian .12 motor they both work on the small collet size. It’s definitely smaller than the trx collets
@NitroTalkwithTodd12 күн бұрын
@@rcsendandblast1579 I just looked and I found a collet that is 6.4mm instead of the standard 7mm. Is it just a bit smaller? I've got an rc speed, and isn't the RB Novarossi based? They are standard non threaded cranks right? I've got some old Nova small blocks with two piece threaded cranks, I'll take a look.
@NitroTalkwithTodd12 күн бұрын
@@rcsendandblast1579 ok, I found a smaller crank. My ofna/picco 3 port has a 6mm crank. Now that I think about it, I've ran into this problem before and was able to work around it. Great video and topic !!!! So I always look for the air to flow through the “cooling head” mainly because I’ve been taught this in books I’ve read and videos from very reputable people. That being said “I” don’t believe or have I ever heard anyone in books or videos say it was to cool the “glow plug”. However the “heat sink” and or “cooling head” is to remove heat from the whole engine. The air flow through the air passage on the “cooling head” will greatly assist in that process. I DO NOT believe the logos on the head have any value as to what way the head is mounted they are purely decorative and the manufacturer may put them in different spots. The cuts outs however for the exhaust and mounting bolts are a CLEAR DEFINITIVE FACT on how the head should be mounted. STILL there are examples you have shown that this is not always the case. Some engines don’t even have air passages like you have shown here. I’m thinking maybe those are RTR engines and manufacturers think a basher is not gonna run for an hour straight. My guess would be that high end race engines built to run 45 minute to an hour long main will always have the air flow passages and they WILL flow through the head when mounted properly.

@NitroTalkwithTodd13 күн бұрын
I haven't done a full count in years, but I have a very good Idea. I'm positive there are larger collections, but I don't know who has them. The highest count I've seen here on KZbin is I believe just shy of 120. I'm a fair bit past that. And with some creative counting(a crankcase, cooling head, head button, backplate, p/s/r set, crank and carb equals an engine) I could add 30 or so more. I believe I have the largest cooling head collection, glow plug collection, and a great deal of pipes. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I have been collecting for many years now, and I am very proud of what I have accumulated. I have thought about doing a full engine count video, I may someday. Thanks for your comments, I really enjoy sharing my collection with others who share my passion for the nitro engine.

The mid needle is really unnecessary and not a help to newbies trying to tune a carb, I've worn out one of those engines, they're pretty solid motors and hold a tune well normally.
@NitroTalkwithTodd14 күн бұрын
I agree, adjustment of the mid needle should probably be avoided. This engine specifically is prone to air leaks at the mid needle, so I do recommend maintenance. I'm not sure if I made the point in the video, but this engine runs great with the mid needle flush, so I recommend leaving it there. Thanks for watching

1st. Os , 2nd GO , 3rd Rb all are beautiful engines! Rossi are from early to mid 2000,s, RB closed down of their own choosing and not aware they ever used force. Great collection for sure surprised you don’t own a JP Racing (JP Black) the first company to ever offer DLC coating in a .21 buggy engine. Jp started in 98/99 made the RX 21 Team 8 port and Pro ‘99 9 port comparable but better than RB’s C4/C5. Insane power. Later came CLB, SBK, Pro 01, P5 and a few others. Stopped his brand in 08/09 Wish JP was still Producing engines. I enjoy your videos…. Appreciate another collector.

Todd, I watched these 2 videos a couple of times because I liked them so much. I had a couple questions that I hope I didn't miss the answers to in your videos. 1.) Do you use the same procedure on "premium"/tight engines as you do on more budget friendly or RTR engines? 2.) On small displacement engines (like .12) would you cut the fuel in half? I realize these questions may sound totally dumb here... that's why I have waited so long to ask.
@NitroTalkwithTodd22 күн бұрын
I do the same procedure on every engine that I break in. Most of my old race Novarossi engines were broken in this way. Yes, I would use about half the amount of fuel on a .12 It would take around the same amount of time, and it would be about the same number of(smaller) tanks.
@brandonpfister21 күн бұрын
@NitroTalkwithTodd Awesome! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your work. It really is a gold mine of information, especially when you consider how we learned in the RC world before. It was word of mouth or a magazine, back in the old days! Even 10 years ago, there was not quality, REAL, fact based information around nitro/glow land vehicles. There was bad advice/information present on KZbin and a million opinions online. Information on fuel would be a perfect example here. Or even something simple like front bearings! Or a bearing in a certain engine... like the MGT 8.0. It had an odd size... I remember watching a dang DVD for engine tuning and had all my notes out so I didn't burn up my gently used (but new to me) MGT 8.0!!! I was a nervous wreck! Haha! Anyway... thank you, Todd :) I hope you're doin' alright, man! :)
@NitroTalkwithTodd14 күн бұрын
If I remember correctly, the 8.0 was prone to air leaks at the front bearing causing tuning issues right? I was just thinking about it, maybe it just sucked too much? Maybe there is a point when an engine gets too big, and can no longer be properly sealed with a standard front bearing. They are essentially air pumps, one could assume the larger the engine the more negative pressure created in the crankcase. Maybe bearings started leaking after minimal wear due to the excessive pressure... Interesting to think about, and experiments could be done, if they haven't been done already. I've been thinking about making a Nitro iceberg list. With obscure brands and concepts such as Singh grooves at the bottom. I appreciate the support, thanks for watching.

I got a nitro buggy on an amazing deal with the js racing hellfire .21 engine, pulled it apart cleaned it up real good lubed everything and put it back together but having trouble gettin the carb set to get it to start any suggestions on where to set it as a base?
@NitroTalkwithTodd23 күн бұрын
On a big block engine where base needle settings are unavailable, I would try 2-3 turns out on top, and 3-4 out on bottom. Most engines can start in that neighborhood. Another thing you can do is swap the carb out with a carb that is already set to good running settings. Thanks for watching.
