Does anyone know of a documentary about men writing as women (aliases)? Like Marilyn Ross, Edwina Noone, et al.?

Beautiful books! I'm surprised no one has come out with an art book collection of the cover art for gothics.

I so enjoyed you going through each book and telling something about each one. These old Gothic Romance paperbacks are my cup of tea. I have been collecting them since the 80's but now I wish I would have been looking for them harder. I have just under 200 books. I have only read a few of them because with the smaller print and yellow pages I have a difficult time reading them. I love the artwork on the covers. Thanks so much for posting this!

I love finding these gothics out and about in the stores. I used to find them often but the well has dried up as of late. Those Satanic Gothics just made it to the top of my wantlist. Didn't know they existed. Great video! You should post more often.

"Some of these ladies are lucky enough to have capes on as they run away from the house." LOL. They often published non-romance novels in Gothic Romance format. I remember a copy of Mary Robert's Rhinehart's "The Bat" in this format. Also a Norah Lofts novel with a male protagonist who was trying to murder his wife. Good stuff, and the Gothic format made it even better. Thank you so much for this video. I miss the old Gothics and never had any room to keep them. The covers were the best part.

Hi, Adrian. These books are not available to me where I live but I am very interested in them. Would it be possible for u to do some review videos of some of them which u have read?
@adriang91327 күн бұрын
Thanks for your kind comments. These books are typically over 40 years old now, and only available from online sellers or used book stores in the USA. I have read a lot of them, but they all follow the same (or very similar) formula, so separate reviews of each individual book would get boring very quickly!

Nice piece on the comics. Some going for silly money these days. I'd love some but my budget for pulp/vintage horror etc is already stretched and if i spend any more that'll be me running from our house on the cover vigorously chased by my other half 😊

Weren't these called 'bodice rippers?' At some point there was always some man hungrily ripping her bodice away exposing her milky white... well, you get the idea.

I enjoy looking at these wild covers SO much! There must have been many an artist who could make a decent living by specializing in paperback covers. My dad liked spy and mystery novels and would go to every garage and yard sale to find them. Great covers too, with half naked women, lots of big breasts, big guns and such. Definitely a different focus!

That yellow gown is NOT a night gown. It's an evening gown, and looks pretty 70s to me.

How fun! Love those covers! My best friend and I would read these by the score during summer vacation in the late 60s and early 70s. The library had them in twirl around racks near the front door. Every day, it would be horseback ride, pool, lunch, then library! Seems like many a "Jane Eyre" copy, but we devoured every one! I especially loved the ones that had ghosts!
@ciaraoshea89462 ай бұрын
that is so cool honestly, coming from a 2000's baby who sees these types of books in shops but now in the form of horrific photographed images or AI. I would take these books over them in a heart beat. I am very envious of you right now hahah. but defo gonna look for some ghost ones online if i can haha thanks.

I have been collecting these books "women running from houses" for over 40 years. I had never read a single book but just loved the covers. A few back I started reading them and I really love them. Some are a bit slow, but in now way would I ever part with one of these gems. I have hundreds! I have most of those books in your video. Thanks for the video.

Im danish and my mum collected these when I was a kid. I've been going nuts trying to figure out the name of the series for ages. And now that I have I'm losing my mind again cuz these aren't all the books I remember. Was there another series similar to this one??
@adriang913 Жыл бұрын
There were many comic series of this size published around the same time, but they had different themes (War, Sci-Fi, Detective, Western, etc), but the only other horror themed ones I know of are Tales of Terror Picture Library and Nightmare Suspense Picture Library.
