Hi! I am also located in Indiana and am looking for a good travel agent to assist in planning and booking our family’s trip to Ireland this summer. Do you mind sharing the name and contact information for your travel agent? Thanks!
@thissecondhalfadventureКүн бұрын
@20duncan05 Thanks for watching! On our first trip to Ireland we used a local agent. They moved away from here and I heard they’re focused more on group travel tourism. We knew that they were working through CIE Tours that focuses more on Ireland travel and Great Britain travel. On our second trip this past September we worked entirely with CIE . They offer a variety of tours for families, large groups, small groups etc. Sadly, we get no compensation from CIE. ☹ I know there are agents in Indy and South Bend that specialize in Irish travel but we don’t have any experience with any of them. I could go on, but feel free to ask any other questions you might have. Hope you have a Happy New Year!

@20duncan05 Just got home from an early New Year’s session with friends. One of them is a successful travel agent. She has great sources and is capable of setting up a trip to Ireland. She’s detail oriented and would listen to your questions. Kristin and Terry have been around most of the world and could help you with your summer trip. Once again, we don’t get compensated from her ( maybe a beer) but she’s detail oriented and might be able to help. Safe travels.

I actually had a few incidents when I lived in the US when people thought it would be OK to make xenophobic comments to me for being Irish, such as jokes about potatoes and the famine or how we are all drunks and beat our wives etc. I asked them, would you walk up to a African-American or a Hispanic and ask them similar xenophobic stereotypes? I'm glad you both raised the issue about people making offensive comments to us Irish people or ordering certain named drinks etc.

@northernsegageorge6510 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 It seems like the people you were around needed a little common sense! I’d like to give Americans more credit than that type of b.s. but there’s all kinds of folks👍😀 We like to be good guests if we’re at someone else’s home. It’s cool if someone watching learns something new. The drink names seem simple or clever to amaricans without having a clue to the meaning. We went to an “Irish “ bar in South Bend, IN and they had an Irish Car Bomb on their drink menu. Casually mentioned it to the bar girl and she had no clue to the name! Hope you keep watching!

@@kurtjesernik3207 👍 You might already know the roads you can drive a motor home in Ireland. We just drove in west Cork and Kerry. Some rural roads were one lane wide with pullovers here and there 😀 We’ve been to London and Northern Ireland and the locals we met were great. It seems to us the younger generation wants to move on from the past. The older generation is still closer to the past. Like you say, the best is to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our old friends and our new friends! Northwest Indiana sends you all the best!

Phil Lynott lived on the Howth Penisula and drank there occasionaly. Originaly raised in Crumlin on the south side. Phil was so proud of being Irish. No matter where he went in the world if he was talking to a journalist and they got something wrong about Ireland, he'd give the guy a history lesson. It meant a lot to him. His mother Philomena lived in Howth until she passed and would go to his graveside in Howth on a daily basis, and often spoke to his fans,

If you’re going to do a video about Howth, please first learn how to pronounce it correctly. It rhymes with “both”. Also, McDaids in on Harry Street across from Bruxelles pub, just off Grafton Street. That is not part of what you called the “Temple Bar area”. Temple Bar is between Dame Street and the River Liffey. And in the evening time no self-respecting Irish person would drink there. It’s a rip-off price-wise, and is full of tourists and English stag and hen parties. That’s why you met Irish people in McDaids. As it is nowhere near Temple Bar. All that said, I’m glad you both enjoyed your trip to Dublin.
@thissecondhalfadventure27 күн бұрын
@gavindoyle692 You’re right, we dropped the ball on that pronunciation of Howth. Sad truth, we knew how to pronounce Howth but when we recorded we slipped. I’m just happy I didn’t say “ I er land “. We were aware of Temple Bar reputation but decided to walk through there on a Friday night to see what it was like for ourselves on the way back to our hotel. We saw all the groups you mentioned 😀. Didn’t buy any drinks but talked to a man who was trying to keep groups of “hen parties “ in order. He said “ I don’t get paid enough for this “ McDaids was perfect for us! Thanks for watching and commenting! Hope you keep watching.

the books removed from the Long Room at Trinity College Dublin's Old Library will be put back on the shelves after the conservation project is complete. The books are being relocated to a climate-controlled storage facility while the building undergoes restoration and upgrades. So when the building is restored and climate controlled within the library itself, all the books will be returned after their preservation work.

Nice video, though mispronounced Howth. It's more like 'Toad' with a H. and a th at the end 😂 Yes, odd i know! Yes, you can see the country Wales on occasion. Im.a tour guide that takes groups to Howth and we could see the mountains of Snowdonia over in Wales on the horizon last year. It's only 80 miles away so depending on weather conditions it's visible every now and again. McDaids is great, though not in Temple Bar. Its on Harry St, off Grafton St, our major pedestrianised shopping street on the southside. Glad you enjoyed! 🙌🏻

Although traditionally the harp in Trinity College has always been referred to as Brian Ború’s harp, Carbon 14 dating and dendrochronology has shown that it’s not that old. Brian Ború died in 1014 (at the Balttle of Clontarf) but the harp only dates from the late 14th/ early 15th century so not that old. Howth is pronounced ‘hoh-th’ (like both). It derives from the Old Norse name ‘Hoved’ meaning ‘headland’. This is where my family is from. But you didn’t see Howth Castle or the Neolithic portal tomb (3,800bc). Also the area around the Baily Lighthouse, right up to the cliff path, is part of an Iron Age promontory fort. You’ll have to come back!

We were sad not to be able to see more of Howth this time, but yes- we’ll have to get back there for sure. Apologies for my mispronunciation of your family hometown! I’ve said in the past that the only thing harder for an American than pronouncing Irish place names would be an Irish spelling bee!😂
