The working voltage for the meter shown by you is max. 30 volt and it can measure up to 100 volt by using yellow wire. By any way if the DC voltage goes above 30 volt the meter will be burnt out.

Built it this evening worked great. ThankYou! (I got some weird behaviour from the xl6009 though, it wouldn't show a voltage lower than around 20 volts even with pot turned 'down' to the maximum. Still worked fine and the correct voltage showed up when testing LED's but a bit weird)

Your meter showing 40mA current which is wrong for any SMD LED.
