Wasn't a big fan of the music sorry :( I had to mute it. I have many fond memories of being at Loch Doon. I live locally. My dad passed away in Winter of 2018. He frequented this Loch every single year for 52 years or more. He made Loch Doon his holiday destination every time. He lived locally as well. He started in a tent in the 1950s and then eventually moved to a caravan as his mode of accommodation. Until they forced people off and blocked green access via big boulders. They can't be seen to let people have something for nothing. That was what made Loch Doon popular it was free to fish and camp for as long as you liked. Now they have a caravan rental park across the road from where my dad used to park his caravan at the brig. One time where the dam is he walked up the side with no road. All the way around the Loch and back down to the dam again. He was in his late 70s when he did this. Me I'd be lucky to survive walking up either side never mind doing a full circle of the Loch.

Note the crumbling balustrade and the two large potholes in the road surface. This is happening all over England after many years of government neglect and mismanagement. It's different in Scotland... there are very few potholes and widespread investment in the nation's infra structure. I wish we could have the Scotish parliament govern England. They would do a better job!

Dramatic views

You should change the title, Hermitage Castle is closer to Newcastleton than it is to Hawick, I can imagine a bunch of lost tourist walking around here looking for a castle that is 16 miles away 😅.

I went to see this castle. It's quite remote even with the road.

Was there in 1987. Chilling place in every sense of the word. Looks like they took the scaffolding down as well. Would have loved to have gone inside when my family and I were there, but sadly the caretaker was ill and it was locked up tight.
