Can we please get more people to understand that minecraft is not an RPG, it's a survival sandbox that promotes creativity among players. That isn't to say that there aren't aspects of adventure within it, sure it has dungeons and different tiers of weapons and armor, but ultimately Minecraft's goal isn't to have the player running around to fight 20 different bosses and loot hundreds of dungeons, that would actively take away from all other aspects of the game, just like how in "Better Minecraft" there isn't any real additional content for building or redstone so doing those activities seems kind of pointless, especially when the pack purposefully pushes you away from that kind of content and discourages you from doing anything but looting and "leveling up".

My issue with mods is the same as with vanilla Minecraft: there's too much bloat. Too many systems and items detached from each other that don't feel connected or cohesive in any way. A better Minecraft would be one more cohesive and with less bloat, not more. We don't need more dimensions or ores we need better and more cohesive experiences with what we already got in vanilla.

It is pretty hardcore progression and meant to be played with friends, but it is still really enjoyable single player. Loving the content, and just subbed. (The modpack is only on Modrinth, btw)

I had some fun with this pack, with the betterend mod. I made a world which spawned me in the end first, so I basically set myself a goal to return to the overworld (BE has portals which you need to complete to go back). It was pretty fun finding ingredients to make the crystals that power the portal, though progression is a bit wonky since loot in the end is basically close to endgame stuff so the progression curve is like an upward spike lol. Wouldnt call it better than mc, but it is a nice pack to tweak around with just how many mods there are

I added Better Nether to one of my packs a while ago, until i went to the Nether and found a large village type structure and got 30 BLOCKS of netherite from it. Boring mod that ruins progression.

I know people like to make fun of the whole "it feels modded thing" but that's a valid way to feel. Minecraft has a really specific feeling. If I'm playing modded, I'd like to maintain that feeling. If that feeling is changed to feel like a different game entirely, I'd rather just play a different game

Not a MC clone, but sort of a clone of a MC total conversion mod - at least in regards to many features and design principles (TFC was much grindier and clunkier though). Also, the handbook is context sensitive and kinda works the same as those MC inventory helper mods (JEI, NEI, etc.) in that you can hover over an item and press H to see its recipe and uses (like R & U hotkeys in those mentioned mods), and I think it was shift + H for in world "mouse" over when you look at something. Localized weather in games is rare unfortunately but simulation heavy games often go that route (Project Zomboid being another noteworthy title). Simiarly to TFC, VS also has climate regions. So going further north makes it even colder / arctic, while going south will make it warmer - including tropical (wet) and deserty (dry) regions. Panning is just a fall back method. First copper is gotten by surface copper, which btw has little underground ore nodes right below it so mark it on your map when you find surface ores. Looking at your prospecting, I'd say you're not fanning out wide enough. If you were to zoom out, you could actually see that ore spawns kind of in centralized clusters before they gradually fade out. So if you're seeing pure red, move further before prospecting again, and maybe try other directions too. And you don't need the firestarter when you have lit torches btw. lol VS is hard similar to how PZ is hard. It's a lot of very little things that you have to learn and be aware of, which takes time.

Though I agree on your last point about predatory servers, I think that's more of an issue with the whole of the gaming industry rather than Minecraft. 10 years ago that shit didn't fly, now it does.

Hey man, I appreciate the video and the tone, but I hard disagree on what I think you are proposing for the future. The whole "the devs added stuff cause they could" is extremely short slighted and is part of the reason why we have so many useless stuff. Look at the end, it's been a decade and it is still struggling to be worth something. It took the nether a decade to become lively. The game needs polishing, there is already enough bad stuff. We need updates like 1.16-19. and especially more like busy bees. The armor trims are something I have always wanted, the option to costumize my armor. Adding effects would just mean it's not cosmetic, and I may have to chose the optimal one. And I think that is the main issue with Minecraft, it has so many players that want opposite things, and the game is so iconic, changing literally anything is probably a huge discussion. Especially considering the Microsoft oversight and all the extra requirements that includes.

Rubedo jas genuinely moved me. I was making my 1km nether tunnel, and hearing it when i was in the middle, laying the structure of s build so long neither end was on sight made me feel so small and large at the same time. One of the best experiences i have had playing Minecraft

I love the inventory management options, it's a really nice QOL change. There's also a storage network mod that somewhat addresses how cluttered the inventory gets with all the new items Another small change that I adore is that holding an emerald block makes villagers follow you, like wheat with cows!

You should try sky factory there’s 5 of them but I recommend the sky factory 3. it’s a sky block mod pick but I think you’ll enjoy the experience it gives.

Wait, do they make ruined portals from vanilla different or harder to find? Or do you need an insane amount of tears? Cause they don't feel that rare in vanilla

Chocolate edition, its main thing is that it is the opposite of a vanilla plus pack, making minecrafts progression based like terraria

I love the idea of vintage story. The execution is the issue I have. There is really really cool lore and story to this game, but there is nothing to find in the world except the odd trader and maybe some ruins. The portals are not expanded upon and feel like a placeholder for what they actually should do. There arent any cool locations or villages or bosses. Its just survival. I end up losing the motivation to put that much work into an empty world. What good is a nice house if the world is just empty with the odd trader that trades to nobody.

What would configure a "better minecraft" to me would be adding some better than wolf's features (the crucible, actual need for the campfire, stone/iron being hard to get early game), at least make early game be a harsh survival while mid game is more sandbox-y

hey! you should check out the modpack crucial 2!! a very fun and well made vanilla+ pack by the creator of the quark mod!

Other than that Nether Portal thing, It sounds like a super awesome pack! Though I'm not the biggest fan of Vanilla+ I do like packs that modify the game's progression to be a bit more "interactive" if that makes sense If you're looking for recommendations, I have 2 packs I've fallen in love with. One being "TerraFirmaCraft: Hardrock" though fair warning this one might take you a good year or two to get anywhere with (it's really slow paced) , and the other being DeceasedCraft which is the best Zombie Apocalypse pack that has ever existed with an intricate progression and plenty of opportunities for both people who like automating things, and those who like to explore!

Calling a modpack, any modpack, (regardless of how well it actually does at improving Minecraft) a “Better” Minecraft, to me feels way too pretentious

The better end is a pretty silly mod. The end is not supposed to be a lush comfortable place to be in. The people who complain about the game getting too few updatesy expect this amoount of new features, but iI am 100% sure that those people would complain about what is added as well as because they would say that the game feels different.

My take: The game engine's definitely better than it was back in the day. The culture however; is far, faaar worse. There was always a pedo problem sure, but now it's gotten so bad it may as well be a golden corral serving all you can groom minors to them on a platter. I'd say moderation needed to crack down on this yesterday, but a lot of the moderation team's already been outed as gooners and pedos themselves which explains so damn much.
