You’re fucking amazing man I don’t say that lightly :) !!

Very thorough and helpful tutorial, thank you. There are some differences though from the actual recording. I am not hearing that complex hammer on-pull off you have in your version in the original. I think it's simpler than that. Also, the last phrase, he doesn't play the blue note like you do (flattened 7th) actually on the word 'book' he plays the 6th (c sharp in key of e) on the second string starting a descending run down: c sharp, b, a, g sharp, a, g sharp, then two open strums.

I came to this video because I wanted to learn a John Lee Hooker song and I didn't know what tuning he played in or what chords he used. Your channel is great! Yesterday I tried tuning mu guitar in Open A, but there is too much tension on the strings. Could you recommend a string gauge for this tuning? Thank you very much for your work 👍

Not a great lesson. Just hacking away on a resonator does not come anywhere near to the style and intricate work of Johnson. Just listen to the 2 Johnson recordings of Crossroads and you will hear a much more nuanced and delicate sound.

Thank you so much for this! I can finally hope to play one of my favorite songs. I gotta say that his recording on Acoustic Stories is the best version of this (in my humble opinion)

Thanks for taking the time to share some of your insight on RL's playing... tough to find very much on youtube that's worth watching... as you well know, it's challenging to articulate but I found it to be more helpful than most others on youtube. Thanks again 😎👍🎸

Looking forward to listening learning from this. I worked with R.L. mostly harp but a bit of guitar between 81 - 94 stayed tight with him until the end. Learned alot of R.L.'s style, but not so much his songs. Now, it's time believe. Jon Beckley Morris

@@DeltaLou Guess I just fell in love with Mississippi Fred McDowell's playing. And, R.L. lived pretty close. Fred passed away in 71. Heard the first recordings of R.L. in 76, and thought he was as tough that sound working on the 1 singing 4,5 anyway I really wanted to learn from him. He liked people playing with him, and I played harp so we just started working together. There is quite a bit on the internet of us, and I'm on his MC RECORDS CDS ACOUSTIC STORIES playing guitar on Kindhearted Woman & Meet Me In The Bottom harp the rest & well...well...well a kind of rustic album. Please keep putting up R.L.'s music!!!😎

What a weird comment. Wanting to play your favourite tunes is the most natural thing in the world. The idea isn’t always to “get close to” X’s version.

Hello and thanks for your thorough lessons. I'm obsessed with the KZbin video of Burnside and Johnny Woods performing "Telephone Blues." I can't find anybody teaching it online. Could you please tell me if its riffs appear in any of the songs you've uploaded tutorials for?

Thanks to all you musicians for what you do. I’d enjoy having a video teaching the main key tuning needed to learn the music for people like Kimbrough, RL Burnside . You know Hill Stomp. Ya I’d like a video that teaches the difference tunings guys like me can have in our bag of tricks.

I like the way you take your time. In real life, I'm just a bass player but I couldn't play with my band during the pandemic so I decided to learn guitar some. Because of my background i find it easier to use my fingers rather than my thumb which seems awkward. I thing real guitarists who are use to a pick probably don't have any issues with using a thumb. I'm getting better though thanks to your videos. I love the songs you choose. RL and Fred McDowell are my favorites so I greatly appreciate your lessons.
