Does GIC impact in summar season affects CT performance and its failure? In RVPN many CTs are being failed specifically in summar season due to insulation failure or CT burst. how can we strive to reduce this failure?

I highly recommend viewing this video to get a better idea of the effect geomagnetic storms that induce GICs have on power systems.

2 problems are happening from VVO. Electric companies that have been running at or above nominal for years and years at 122 or so and customers running 230v motors with wye voltage. It's never been a problem before because the bottom end of a 230 motor is around 208. Now that 214 phase to phase voltage is running 196 customers are having ac compressors burn up. Second, even though 114 is within tolerance of most electric co standards today's equipment that are microprocessor driven and are more sensitive to voltage swings. Running 120 or even 117 and having a voltage drop from motor start ups on the circuit is one thing. Maybe drop to 115 or so but run 114 and have the same situation and then you are in the 110 neighborhood. Just because you can run 114 does not mean you should run 114. imo
