Wasnt Cujos fault. He was infected with rabies. IF there is someone to blame then the Owners who didnt vaccinete him. In the book it is so sad when you read the chapters of Cujos mind 😢. He never wanted to be a bad boy. He even spares the Boy (Owner) even so he was already at the edge of his mind in that scene in the book. Its just tragic that he was twisted by an horrible infection

I mean, this is kinda obvious. Cujo just had rabies. He would've been perfectly fine if he never got bitten by that bat.

Cujo was a victim. He was NEVER evil. It was the rabies from the bat bite. To call Cujo a monster is unfair and unjust. Cujo couldn't have been a more tragic character...he NEVER wanted to hurt his human family, but the rabies forced him to.

So people who have frontotemporal dementia will do things like steal cars and expose themselves at parks. They'll say that they knew it was wrong but didn't care. Katy Perry had a boyfriend very early on who became a murderer after a head injury from a vehicle accident I believe. There's nothing to say that who we are is who we are. A change in the brain can turn us into someone completely unrecognizable, possibly even violent. Personally, I believe everyone is capable of violence with the right stimulus, and regardless of brain chemistry. The horror about this is that you aren't who you think you are. You are only who your brain expresses. We're beholden to whatever our brains tell us to do or be, whether it's telling you to want a cup of tea instead of coffee or to murder your landlady and her cat with a hammer. There is really no such thing as free will, but believing in it might make being alive less terrifying.

It wasn't because he was evil. The rabies virus made him that way. It wasn't his fault that he got the virus. In the book, we go into the mind of the dog. The disease was hurting him and he didn't want to hurt anyone in the book.

Of course Cujo was innocent. Rabies literally melts the brain. This leads to aggression first, then "dumb" rabies as they lose more and more function. On top of that, King makes it VERY clear that Cujo is a normal dog. A very large dog, but a normal one, albeit without vaccinations. Why does this even need to be a theory? Who actually thinks Cujo is anything other than a big dog with aggressive stage rabies?

I don't really think Cujo is actually evil per se. I mean, I didn't like the thing he became, but it wasn't really his fault, it was the rabies getting to his head. The book even points this out by having a few paragraphs from Cujo's perspective here and there. In most of these, we find out the rabies is making him think every human he sees is responsible for all the pain and suffering he's going through, and it's making him take his anger out on those people. If anything, Cujo can be described as either a tragic villain, or an unfortunate victim. I'm gonna go with both.

Cujo IS innocent. It's not a theory, it's canon. Stephen King has confirmed several times in the book Cujo is a nice dog, and even when he had a rabies he tried to act as normal as he could before going completely nuts. Sadly he wasn't vaccinated, because dad's too greedy and cheap to take the dog to vet. He didn't do that even after Cujo facing a porcupine.
