What!? Y’all are charging $12 a foot for “4 of concrete and labor?? If it’s a 4” slab then you would really only be dealing with 240sf so technically based on your price you should only be charging $2,880 🎉

Outright theft. He must be a heck of a likeable guy to even think about not kicking him off the premises and even calling the police on him. $2000 worth of fuel. That sort of thing can help kill small businesses.

I would fire him. The bottom line is he has stolen money in the form of fuel. You’re in business to profit not take losses. Also I would definitely press charges.

Me, personally, I would ask him about the fuel & give him the opportunity to be honest. ( Things are rough right now, we should work together. You shouldn't have to take a loss, though.) If he's honest, I'd give him a chance. Work with him. If he's dishonest, though, after being caught taking the gas, then chances are, unfortunately, that's his character.

If he is a good employee and the boss realizes the employee is worth allowing him to own-up AND pay for the fuel, THEN the boss could sit the employee down and show him how this affects the the bottom line and all the employees. NO EXPLANATION, just a talk and allow the employee to own-up. If he doesn’t, he gets the boot. If he owns-up AND pays for the gas, you allow the employee to stay with conditions(solution) that he will state to the boss to prevent him from doing this again. This way, the boss keeps a good employee, the gas problem ends, and the employee has the opportunity to determine the method, to which, he will keep being a good employee and relationship will continue with a minor burp. For example, he comes up with terms he will follow so as not to be tempted to steal gas. I could see him, telling the office he is refueling the truck etc. and having to go inside and record the gas on a log in the office and sign his name to it. In other words, the employee admits taking the gas without excuses, makes amends and comes up with a plan to refuel that will keep him in the right and mends the relationship with the boss. If it is possible to keep this between the boss and employee, this will allow the employee to work towards repairing the good relationship with the boss and company. Good employees are very hard to find, train, and keep. This is what I would do. I would not show him the video unless he denies the theft. If he does not own-up, as the boss/owner you have no choice but to immediately let the person(s) involved go and file the appropriate papers to have him arrested and get the money back. This method puts all the responsibility on the employee to fix the problem and a way to get back in the good graces.of the boss and company. You can title this “All of us make mistakes we are not proud of, regardless whether or not we are deceivingly dishonest or honest and didn’t think how the theft affects the Company and fellow employees. I kind of think of this as the King Solomon Solution. Oh, the final step is to once in awhile tell the employee he did a good job, when he does good work, or praise him for little things like you notice he is here early all the time. The little things make him feel important to the boss and gves a sense he is in good graces. All this is just being human and caring for each other, we are worth it.

Show him the recording. Tell him to pay back 3X the price and if happens again you're going to jail. If you value a person, care enough about them to discipline them. Like your child, you discipline them, you don't throw them out ❤ Help them to be a better person, invest in their life:)

If u will steal penny you'll steal a dollar. At 2,000 every 2 days that's an average of a 1,000 a day times a year is 365k a year I don't care what business u have that's a chunk of profit. Ask yourself if he was taking cash and in theory he is . Would u still keep him around. And once one employee sees he's getting away with it you will have more employees doing it.. I'd make him reimburse me and then I'd fire his a××. No matter the reason . If he was truly a good employee he would have asked or let u know

Big difference between good worker and good employee. This is theft and you gotta turn him in or get an agreement in writing for repayment. Next time, dont point out the security features. 😉

You need a better pre-employment screening process, my guy. You said this is a common and recurring problem. It shouldn't be. I understand that on occasion, someone will slip through. You handle those outliers as they expose themselves. From your description, this seems to be the rule, not the exception.

So, your employee was stealing from you. You put in a means to track fuel accountability, and all employees know about it, BUT they still steal fuel! Time to find an employee that provides value instead of "stealing" value from the company. This type of theft should be reported.

Draft it out of his check. Write up an agreement that he is to pay you back out of his check until he pays for the fuel plush the transport fees from the company to replace stolen fuel. Let him know that if he declines it will be theft. If he declines the agreement, press charges because that is a felony meaning he will get to spend time in butt rape prison, not jail.

I’m confused? He is stealing by filling up work truck? Or personal vehicle? Oan: I know guys that would work on the rig and drive diesels. Stealing fuel loading barrels up carrying around on back of their pickup trucks. That’s wild to me.
