Onew. I can start by saying you have been in my life longer than some of the people I consider my best friends, which indicates why it’s hard for me to tell you how much I love you. You’ve always just been there, and you were one of the first K-Pop idols I’ve ever come to know. What stood out to me first were your facial expressions. Although I was watching you through a computer screen, the gaze you had was enough to have me watching every move in a trance. I was, am still mesmerized by the ability that you had to entice your audience just by looking at the camera. Next, I was speechless at the level of difficulty the choreography you performed was. Not only were you tackling this seemingly impossible and precise choreography, but you were doing so with the most control and connection to your musicality as possible. When you dance, I’ve noticed through these long years that you always do so with the most style and passion that I never even thought was possible. Perhaps what charmed me the most was you vocal ability. The power and “boom” in your voice can fill the mood of an entire song or performance. It knows no boundaries or limits, and you can change it to fit any situation. Being by your side for as long as I have has allowed me to discover the potential of your voice and the heights that it reaches. There is a richness and sophistication to it in a way, and it is very emotion-filled and versatile. This lead to me watching other musical videos and performances where I would focus on you and see that you are always able to master and dominate any song, concept, choreography, or anything that is thrown at you. In just a short time, I’ve seen you become one of the greatest performers ever. It takes dedication and a sincere love for what you do to become as skilled at what you have so quickly and so much. Of course, there is no doubt that having this much talent only means that you were born to be on stage performing. You have the ability to give your fans one of the best performances and the best moments of their life just by singing and dancing with all of your heart, and this ability touches our hearts in a way that nothing else has. In addition to your stupendous performing talent, I’ve also loved getting to know of your personality during these years of spending so much time with you. I know that I don’t know you personally, but you’ve offered so much of your life and have appeared to approachable to your fans that I can’t help but hope that I am at least somewhat connected to you. I love how dependable and eager you are, and this goes for both your profession and your members. You never seem to back down from a challenge and appear ready to put your all into what you’re doing. I love your positivity and your tendency never to give up. You don’t take any moment for granted, at least when it comes to your fans, and this is why you have remained one of the most lovable and selfless people in our eyes. Maybe, my favorite trait about you is your humor. Even when you are unaware of it, there have been several moments when you are unintentionally funny. You’ve created a story full of instances that we can always treasure and look back on to define our relationship with you and each other. There’s been nothing but happiness and laughter since you came into my life, and so many of the others fans’ lives, and that’s what we need especially right now. It’s been the greatest comfort knowing that we can always come to you when we need to cheer up. Your members have grown up spending possibly the most time with you than anybody else, especially during your time making music together, and your happy personality and confidence has shaped them. You’ve impacted them in a way that can be understood if you look at Shinee together as a whole. You brought them closer together each day and served as a point of inspiration and security for them. Shinee is a family and a trusting brotherhood has been established because of your unconditional love and protection for them. I’ve aspired every day to be like you and treat the people on my leg the very same way. Your actions and words have made them the very best version of themselves, and you encourage all of us to bring out the best in others as well. Shinee would never be as globally successful and revolutionary had it not been for the personal influence you’ve placed on its members, fans, and legacy. What you’ve gone through, all of you, is something that no human being should ever have to go through. My heart will always go out to you and I’ve only felt pain for all of you because you are some of the least-deserving of this kind of devastation in your lives. However, it’s not what happened, but how you respond to it that stays true to your character. You are coping with and persevere through what many people in this world can ever say that have or could. It takes an undeniable amount of strength and faith to keep your head up after what you’ve gone through for years in your life now, and you still remain positive and have not lost what makes you who you are. Instead, you’ve turned into yet another reason to appreciate life and inspire others not to take anything for granted. You serve as a reminder that you will make it through your struggles if you rely on those that love and support you. The encouragement and motivation you’ve been for people around the world, even to the general public, is monumental and will forever be timeless. I want to personally thank your family and parents for raising you and providing the foundation of your admirable character. I respect them so much and thank them for everything that they’ve done for you and even us. I know that they love you and support you with the most pride than anybody in the world. I know that you are always in their hearts, as they are in yours, even if you’re apart. Onew, you’ve sacrificed more than you even should have for years now to bring us iconic music, life-changing performances, and precious memories, all of of which we will value forever. I sincerely want to thank you for the person you’ve become and the example you’ve set for people everywhere. I’ve loved you since the day you came into my life years ago and I only hope that you have always felt our love every day since you’ve become an idol. Thank you for being family to those that don’t have one, your fans, and your members. You’re the reason so many people have kept going despite whatever hardships they’ve faced. You’re the reason your members and fans can still smile today and have faith in the future. We couldn’t ask for anything more from you and we pray that you put your own safety and happiness before anything us, because that’s what really matters. All we could ever want is for you to enjoy your life and time doing what makes you happy, because just being there has been enough for us to be happy. I am so blessed that you came into my life and have been one of the longest people to stay there. I hope that this birthday is a representation of the abundance of love that exists for you around the world. I hope it is everything that you desire, and that you can have the most fun possible. I want you to always have our love to rely on in some of your darkest moments of life because you have done the same for us. I only want to give back to others because of you, and I hope that you can see that you’ve inspired the same wish for so many people everywhere. Shinee is what it is because of you.
