I wouldn't take them back. I'd feel really awkward and ashamed collecting 20p, I feel really anxious right now just thinking about it. Why put the onus on us when it's industries problem. Just unfair.

In my area ( Stirling shire ) For years the bottle recycling skips have had clear / brown /green feed holes. I'm a tall guy and am easily able to see into the skip. Well well , no dividers. So while everyone is being a good puppy there is nothing going forward in the process. Now our blue boxes scarcely get collected and there are commercial dumpsters in the local car park ( rural ) that are constantly overflowing. I suspect that the recycling process is all backed up and they can't get rid of the glass of whatever type at all . Solution , ship it to China. This is not Green in any way.

This is another reason why I plan to close my business, lay off the staff and get the hell out of the shithole that Scotland has become. Just this year these morons are planning to increase taxes, business rates and council tax. Looking forward to leaving jockistan.

What about packaging like cartons that use plastic and aren't widely recycled?

Where is the equality impact assessment for this new policy? Interested to see where it considers those who are older like pensioners, disabled and vulnerable people e.g. mobility issues and those without their own private cars? ❓❓❓❓❓

How do they get those bottles and containers to their house in the first place? They are heavier when they are full too, so will be lighter and easier to carry back when they are empty. If they shop online the online retailer can take them back.

So I recycle at kerb in my wheelie bin at the moment for cans and plastic. Now I get charged 20p extra on each bottle, carton or can, then have to store them up in the house, then drive the car with them to the shop to get my money back? How on earth does this make sense..? What about pensioners, people with mobility issues or no car? The video makes it look easy (returning one item!!), how about a couple of bags worth every month - on the bus if you've not got a car? How will this help pensioners like my mother - higher upfront costs and will be difficult to get her deposits back with no car to get all these containers back to the shop. Thought through much?

The stark and absolute absence of intelligence in this policy has utterly confounded me. We have had a working kerbside recycling system in Scotland for over a decade and yet here we are with this piece of absolute nonsense. WTF is going on!?
@Àdhamh_Fife
@Àdhamh_Fife Жыл бұрын
@@TheHonestJock I agree, this seems to damage an already existing solution. What we need (at least here) is kerbside for glass too. Now everyone is driving their rubbish around pumping out carbon and fumes. Madness.

How do people with mobility issues and/or no car get all their bottles and containers home in the first place? They are heavier when they are full, why would returning them when they are empty and lighter be more difficult?
@davidtaggart7069
@davidtaggart7069 Жыл бұрын
@@TheHonestJock not everyone is so good at recycling as you and I. The scheme is to encourage more people to recycle and also reduce litter. It also makes plastics and glass easier to sort and process, increasing the chance that the materials will be reused.

This is utterly moronic, I recycle my cans and plastics already through my cans and plastics recycling bin. So when this comes in I get screwed out of 20p for every can/bottle I put into my EXISTING recycling bin!? Or I collect them all at home, get them into the car and drive to the local shop to turn them all in... increasing my emissions/fuel use. The stupidity here is absolutely staggering
@davidtaggart7069

@@davidtaggart7069 What about people who shop online as they don't have a car, are disabled or are pensioners? Kerbside works, now it works (but costs more for the shopping)..! Idiotic and not thought through for all people.

@@davidtaggart7069 I only go shopping around once a month, I am not going to store all the cans/plastics/bottles over that time in my flat to take them all at once to the shop. I (like the vast majority in Scotland) already have a cans/plastics recycling bin that I use, we have had them for over 10 years, why on earth are we now introducing a return scheme that completely ignores the existence of this CTAX funded service that has been running for more than a decade!?! Its utterly moronic and nonsensical
@Àdhamh_Fife
@Àdhamh_Fife Жыл бұрын
@@TheHonestJock Exactly, I bet we're not getting a rebate on our CTax. Not everyone as you say has storage or is physically able to take back bags full of empty cans, bottles, etc. Totally mad.

@@TheHonestJock you have space to keep a month’s worth of full plastic bottles but not space to keep a months worth of empty plastic bottles? 😂 They can actually take up less space when they are empty, you can crush or flatten them.

I can’t express the emotions I’m feeling right now. As someone who already considers themselves a potato admirer of some sort this was truly life changing. The sheer emotion and beauty of the poem has struck me to the core and I just couldn’t stop replaying the video and every press of the replay button would leave me more and more stunned. This has truly been a life-changing and pivotal moment for me, one of those I will look back on and think this is where it all started. I am now committed to helping other people realise the power and beauty that lies in potatoes. I hope I can change their lives like you changed mine.Thank you again.

Okay I’m not gonna lie, I had no appreciation for potatoes before hearing this. I used to lead a wasteful and downright unacceptable life, I feel like a I’ve just experienced a lightbulb moment. Never again will I be able to look at, feel, taste, or smell a potato the same again. In tears, this was truly enchanting... thank you
