I think Nishinoya had a hard time with Atsumu bcs he forced him to slow down and think. Nishinoya thrives in high stress or intense game rythm. His playstyle relays on quick, smooth movements, instinct, following momentum and refleckses. Atsumu forced that to style to slow down with his serving game, forcing Nishinoya to stop movin. That meant that he had to deliberately focus on the ball more. And that, bit by bit, ate at his ability to actually react. It's the moment when you know something is coming, you anticipate it so much that your body kind if freezes (bcs you tense up). The jump floaters however move so slow, that the tensing up is worse. You wait and wait and wait- but when the ball actually drops, your body is too tense to move. You can see that especially well in the scene where the serve went out- Nishinoya saw it coming and was anticipating to get it. But his brains short circuit for a bit when he notices the course. And it takes him and bit of a stumble to get out of the way to make the call. Against a server like Atsumu, you need to stay calm, atentive and relaxed, so you can react when the ball comes. And that just isn't really Noya-san's style😂 Not when you put him in spotlight like that. I think this match made him realise a lot of his short comings as a libero (that hadn't previously come up bcs nobofy had really challenged him quite like this before.) And made him stronger. I really love that he got him in the end tho! Shows off just how much Nishinoya HAS grown over time too.
