I understand the concept here. But im a judo guy and the psychological impact a big throw has on my opponent is worth the risk. Plus it looks cool on a highlight reel

Don't mean to bring a 3 year old video back from the grave, but I was looking for just this. It does seem a lot more natural to maybe go for the Tai Otoshi instead from those grips?

Yes, I have done Tai-otoshi with these grips. Very doable.

My condolences for the loss of your father. I just lost my dad in December. Unfortunately, I never got to meet your dad in person, but we communicated through social media and shared many of the same views (as we from the same generation). I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with him with his unique blend of wit and wisdom. I do make it to Idaho occasionally and would love to stop by to visit the academy.

Totally agree, as a judoka there´s no point in looking for an ippon and lose control in a BJJ match.

What’s it called when opponent steps back and you step again with same leg and step behind other leg, Osoto Gaeshi ?

I love Dan The Man! The Armhunter and I have been friends for nearly 20 years now and he is as amazing a human as he is on the mats. If you are ever near Bakersfield California I highly recommend visiting his academy. You will not be disappointed! Thank you for posting this interview!

Buchecha teaches this cross sleeve into a lateral drop as well. Almost like a collar drag but this grip configuration. It's super effective. That plus what you teach here are awesome chains to spam.

I'm not a guard puller. Never have been. My background was Kodokan Judo before Jiu-jitsu. In my dojo, we practice takedowns in every class, every day. One of my missions is to help BJJ students and coaches overcome their hesitation to learn and practice takedowns. It's the primary purpose for this channel.

Great question Jeremiah, There are lots of ways to create opportunities for throws. I'm mostly a counter-fighter and bait the opponent into position. Off balance, fit into position, and execute. (Kuzushi, Tsukuri, and Kake)

Next show ippon se nag, or marote se nagi. Oh how I miss that stuff. Even a simple foot sweep, gets em down on the mat with a quickness.

It is called sode tsuri komi goshi in judo
@TakedownsForJiujitsu
@TakedownsForJiujitsu Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input. I see this comment frequently and I've actually seen it called Sode-tsurikomi-goshi and I can understand why. However, the reason I refer to it as a seoi-nage is because of the mechanics. I bring the arm under the uke's other arm instead of extending it upward. There is no "lifting/pulling" of the sleeve grip. The completion of the throws are slightly different as well. With the sode-tsurikomi-goshi, the uke is thrown over the hip, as is typical with a koshi-waza. With this modified morote-seoi-nage, the uke is thrown over the corner of the shoulder in more of a te-waza fashion. People can call it whatever they choose. I learned it this way from my Kodokan Judo Sensei, Yuzo Kato. Thanks again. I appreciate your input.
