Magnifique document... MERCI. Mon oncle Léon Dessy a servi en Afrique et à fait toute sa carrière au 2eme cdo, Flawinne. Il nous a quitté en décembre 2020 à 80 ans. J'ai suivi sa trace au 1er bn para de Diest, 13me cie Who d'ares wins ! Salutation

Wonderful memories, I was carrying the radio for Capt ''Smoking Joe'' Spencer depicted in the last shots. My French was pretty good so he had detached me to be his RTO during those weeks and act as semi translator, although my Flemish was nil. I served in B 1/509th from Jan 74 through July 75.

Hi André. I have the original Scheldt Crossing maneuver orders labelled Secret Exercises std 02May74 from LT Col Goosens and acknowledged by WILS CDT S3 that I carried for B 1/509 CPT Spencer. You can reach me via Facebook Messenger. I also have the original brevet award correspondence from Rossignol to the US Military Attaché in Brussels. I would have the cover up the individual military ID numbers because they are also the individuals US federal tax ID numbers. I have my original Brevet #23012 . Do you have any contact info for Pete Scholten who had many of the pictures in the web site 509thgeronimo.org/1509abct/bco1509abct.html

I went to Belgium,for jump exchange with the 1st 2nd and 3 para battalions under Commandant Rotters.the country was fantastic,my money was no good ,we stayed drunk for 10 days or so before we done anything.wonderfull country great people and proud NATO members.1981 got lost in luven and Diest . 1/509 abct dog house.

I served in CSC 1/509 (ABN) Infantry from 1980 to 1983 , then later returned to the Battalion after it was revamped to 4/325th (ABCT) in 1986 it was the best assigments i had in 21 years in the army , We called the unit " Nickel O Nasty !

à mes vingt ans , j'ai du faire un choix de carrière , le bâtiment ou militaire , j'ai opté pour le bâtiment ou j'ai fait 35 ans , d'apprentis j'ai finis gestionnaire de chantier publique et architecte d'intérieur ( en diplôme cours du soir ) , mon seul regret aujourd'hui , j'aurais bien opté pour l'armé et y faire carrière , j'étais TRES sportif + arts martiaux et je parle cinq langues ! je crois que cela m'aurais plus !!

I actually had an ancestor who fought in the battle of bure. His name was Hugh Dunlop and he died on the 5th of January 1945. He was part of the pioneer corps and now hugh is buried in Scotland which is where he's from.
