My Barbour Bedale smelled funky so I put undiluted Vodka (Koskenkorva) in a spray bottle and generously sprayed inside and outside. At some point it started dripping vodka off the jacket so I wiped the excess away with a tissue. For now the smell got neutralized.

I tried literally everything for my vintage Barbour jacket and only thing that helped a little was to hand wash the whole jacket and let it be 24 hours in cold water. I tried vinegar, vodka and freezing. Now the lining is neutral, but the outer still smell a bit moudly and has this warehouse smell. I think I have to wash it with soap and water and then rewax it and hope it doesn't smell anymore after that.
@the_wax_baronАй бұрын
@@nohsaatana5731 Yes, sometimes the odours are very persistent. I know exactly what odour you mean. But with your "ultima ratio" method it should go away. The coat here worked with vinegar and then freezing. But the coat probably didn't smell as bad as yours...😄

How do you know that the jacket was made between 1982 and 1987?

The jacket has two Royal Warrants on the brand label. Barbour received the second warrant in 1982 and the third in 1987...so the jacket dates from this period.
