I think this is a clip from George Plimpton (famous for playing as a total amateur with a pro football team) who played the triangle in a fun performance with the NY Philharmonic. Can anyone find that on KZbin? It was hilarious, he was so nervous! Sometimes it is harder to play one note than a whole concerto!

I was today years old (43) before I realised how difficult playing rhythms like this on the triangel actually is. (Yes I tried for real and it's quite hard)

What they needed was a less resonant thing to hit it with , or leave the last note out. Imho

Truly one of the most weird, bizarre conductors of all time, with a technique that nobody can follow...completely nebulous...horrible. Did he even conduct anything out of the early 19th century...even like Mahler, Bruckner, or R. Strauss? Really, a horrible conductor. How did he even ever get a job? really...?

qué fácil es ridiculizar al que toca el triángulo delante de toda la orquesta. ¿Ridiculizarías de la misma forma a todos los violines, o a todas las violas o contrabajos?

A triangle doesn't lend itself practically to staccato notation because its nature is that of a bell that once struck continues to resonate until it is mechanically dampened or its imparted energy dissipates. Since the instrument itself has no dampening "control" (which in a woodwind or brass instrument would be the flow of air through the instrument - which can be started or stopped IMMEDIATELY), the first note struck on the triangle can't be stopped before the second note is struck, resulting in a DECIDED lack of rhythmic control! Staccato is IMPOSSIBLE! Certainly Lenny understood that and I think it was the fact that even a GENIUS has no say in the inevitable outcome that makes this such a classic and FUNNY situation!!!😂😂😂

I can hear the sound he wanted. More like a bell than a triangle. Perhaps a thicker triangle would have the inertia necessary.

Fortunately, as an ordained Maestro, Leonard was incapable of providing poor feedback. Every word that ever came out of his beautiful mouth, and every secretion that ever came out of his holy body, was sacrosanct and beyond criticism (let alone comprehension) by mere mortals.

i would have put a finger on one of the open ends to choke or get rid of so much of the resonance so he could hear the articulation from the beater, then i would let the last note ring out di-di-di-dooooommmmmm
