Hi - no I did not. If you look close there is a gap and I push the rings through the tiny tiny gap. You have to use a little force but it will go through.

I don’t wear it daily so that helps prevent from dirt or color transfer. When there was dirt I took a damp cloth and wiped away and came off very easily. I feel the leather is very durable. Grey would be a nice compromise between white and black. I personally love all the neutral colors. Good luck!!
