Great review thank you very much. I had a question about the aftershave. I like the barrister and man sense but I sometimes find it leaves my skin a little tacky. Is that the case with the rubbish? Again, many thanks for your videos. I’m starting to make my way through them now.

Nice introduction to gem razors! I saw pictures of a razor called the Ever Ready Sunray. It is easily one of the most beautiful razors I've seen. Really hard to find though. Don't know if you've tried it but if so, does it shave like any other model that's easier to find? Also, what's your favorite gem style razor if you could pick one modern and one vintage?

I am finding myself on a GEM journey. I was just wondering how this Ever Ready 1912 compares to the GEM Damaskeene and Damaskeene OC in terms of smoothness/comfort and in terms of efficiency. If you could sorta rank these three razors
@HDShavesАй бұрын
Damaskeene OC is usually very mild, surprisingly! I would rate Ever Ready 1912 as slightly more efficient and slightly less comfortable than Damaskeene SB. So.. Damaskeene OC < Damaskeene SB < ER 1912 Hope that helps

Congratulations on the new place! When I moved a few months ago, I was so messed up because of the sink, mirror, and lighting being so different. I've had to use lower backbone brushes because the new bathroom is narrow around the sink, and I kept hitting the mirror with lather. I prefer synthetics , but natural hair works better in this bathroom. When I first moved in, I only had a couple of razors, soaps, and brushes out, and most of my shaving stuff was in boxes for a few weeks. It was strangely liberating to just alternate my gear and not choose from a lot of options.

That razor has become my go too after almost 3 years of wet shaving. I bought mine from Razor Emporium and had them polish it so it behaves like the 6c. I also love the Liniment you use. I use Thayer's right before it and put the liniment on while my face and head are still damp. It is amazing. Try it. Cheers -Kevin

I'm a wet shaving newbie, but I've done some intense self-education here on youtube, Reddit, etc. I thought one of the rules of good practice was to avoid re-shaving un-lathered skin. But I see that you re-stroke the same area after the first stroke removes the lather. To see this clearly, look at this video where you start using the razor, from 10:00 to 10:09, with the playback speed at 0.25. Or later, when shaving the neck, 16:09 to 16:11. Or your now-bare cheek, 16:22 - 16:27.
@HDShaves7 ай бұрын
It’s not recommended that new shavers shave an area without lather. Plenty of people do it though, and it just takes some practice, a good soap, and a very light touch

These blades are not the same quality. I can guarantee you that they not. I work at a company that sells medical and laboratory supplies and have had every customer that had received the new ones return them the next day. They all say they do not cut precisely enough. They want the personna gem blades instead. These customers use them for medical manufacturing or scientific laboratories. They have the ability to see the miniscule details of performance between both blades and they all say the new rebranded one is crap. Doesn't cut cleanly and very unreliable to work with.
@leviatanrojo49557 ай бұрын
Very nice! Interesting!

Didn't expect to come across a video of someone using a single edge blade for shaving. I actually make those blades. We've been going thru the rebranding for roughly a year now. New name, same blade.
@Waldemarvonanhalt8 ай бұрын
I've gotten a spread of GEM razors and must say they're all quite comfortable shavers, though the Micromatic definitely needs a lighter touch to use. I think that the thing holding GEM blades back is the way that the blade is mounted and secured in these razors prevents the blade from being used to maximum effect. I'm interested in seeing how the Blackland Sabre performs.
@Shankdaddy168 ай бұрын
Have you ever heard of anyone being able to find these 3 facet blades locally? I heard that these are primarily made for medical purposes and the properties needed for shaving just happens to align. I was thinking maybe a medical supply store or other place could carry them. Great video!
@HDShaves8 ай бұрын
It’s hard to buy GEM blades locally. Probably easier to just buy them online! Good luck
@allisonstacy11467 ай бұрын
I know where to get them. We sell them at my company. We have boxes of them. I do know however that the blades are not the same quality. I have had all the customers that purchased them return the new ones saying they cut terrible and want the old ones back. These are companies that manufacture medical devices or laboratories so it definitely is used much differently than you do.

That brush is a really good brush especially for the money. It’s my second or third favorite synthetic brush and I’ve tried a lot. First is 25mm muhle STF. I like soft brush with easy splay. I picked up the 24 mm pony knot, in another handle, and was disappointed. Zero backbone would be good for creams only IMO. I have not tried the Wald knot yet.

I'm in Canada. I don't know how this works overall but in my own anecdotal experience - the public school my two boys went to had a music program and a computer/technology program for all the kids UNTIL a set of parents with autistic kids forced the school to build a special 'bubble room' for the autistic children (which was a very small number of kids). And the upshot was that both the music program and the computer programming room were disbanded to fund the bubble room. So a large majority of the kids missed out to fund something for a very small group. I can understand the need for the autistic kids parents to have their children supported too, but it was a disappointing outcome, that it apparently had to be a win-lose choice.

I like the idea of 3 Scots. Nice scent profile. I already have Heather and Fleur de France. Blank Watch, though may have a good profile, is named after a British army section, which murdered Scottish women and children. I won't buy that one. It's as if they made an Asian scent, and they called it Pol Pot.
