No mention of insulation either. Metal conducts the heat and cold very easy so you need to insulate more for the same R value and need to be even more careful with creating a proper barrier between the inside and outside to protect against condensation in your walls which can lead to premature rusting of the steal beams and fastners and the build up of mold on any wood or organic surfaces the metal studs touch. Thermal bridging is still an issue with wood frames, but not nearly as big of problem as it is with steal.

I would say some of your information steel framing is off base. 1. If you went with a reputable steel framing company, they would have an in house engineer or architects to convert the blueprint into a steelcad When you receive final approval from city, customer, etc, you will then send the final blueprint in a specific file format to the steel framing company that you chose, they will then finish off the labeling of each individual piece of material , in the design which makes the panel for the walls, the sections on up. Yes there is a cost to this but it doesn’t need to complicated. By doing the design layout and 3d rendering , this creates the profile so each piece of steel is form to the exact specifications of steel framing design. You now have 2 options: material itself or pre assembled offshore. This doesn’t happen until initial deposit and lead time of 45-60 days to get it to the job site. Option 1: With material itself, time is shorten to get each piece manufactured and on jobsite. Each piece will be have a label that reflects where it is placed on the home kit instruction. I disagree that you need a skilled labor to install the frame piece manufactured and on jobsite. If you can read a building plan and understand instructions, a generalist can do the install. Option 2 would be pre assembled offshore. Every wall panel would be built based on the profile you inserted. An entire steel frame of a home can we completed in 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Usually around 2 and then loaded onto containers for sea freight. This adds an additional 30-45 days (Vietnam to US). With the proper lead time and the cure of the concrete, you will have no delays. When panels arrive 3 -4 man crew for 2-4 days if semi efficient. Screws and bolts at this point due to being prebuilt offshore. Reducing time and labor cost. Putting back more money into the builders pocket. For pipes and insulation or ductwork. Use floor trusses instead. The profile can create bigger holes and space it as well with steel. This should happen at the planning stage with input of your electrician , plumber. Overall not big concerned when planned correctly. We will start to see a shift with residential construction, once people realized if built offshore, they will be saving money on the build price. Also, homeowners savings from insurance is a huge one you missed So is steel framing cheaper than wood? Not here but their might be instances where you can get a steel frame based on your home design and pre assembled offsite cheaper the price of wood with installation. On top of that, will receive a 20%+ return savings back into your pocket. Don’t believe me? Ask us for a quote..

@@MyTexasDreamHome If I was trying to sell, I would have listed our company info. Even if I was, it doesn’t mean the information I listed isn’t true. I did email you a couple times upon your request, to see if there are ways we can align strategically and help each other’s business. Never got a response. With soaring prices on construction materials and builders getting less of a return per build, I just wanted to put out there that there are alternatives out there that can reduce material and labor cost and increase the bottom line for a builder.

Ahhh yes steel had longer screws and was smacked much lighter on the first hit... Wouldve split on the corner too if the screws were same length as the nails and it was hit as hard
@ChristianSonnenberg
@ChristianSonnenberg 19 күн бұрын
The steel screws would only be 1/2” or maybe 3/4 if required. You really only need a few threads to grab for it to hold. Granted, it was smacked lighter and with less mass to deform it.

The steel stud pieces can VERY EASILY be bent and/or installed crooked. As a residential and commercial carpenter I have seen some TERRIBLE steel stud wall framing. Just as I have encountered plenty of terrible framing with wood. Further, steel studs while impervious to termites are quite susceptible to rust in many geographic areas. I've also seen some wire insulation shredded badly by uncaring electricians pulling over sharp metal edges. Metal framing has advantages and disadvantages.

With these prices, it is unlikely that you will remain in business for an extended period. I would be pleased if I secured a contract with a slope and with a swimming pool for $60k. In fact, I have just completed a flat foundation for $18,000, with a thickened edge of 14 inches, and the area with the garage measured 3,800 square feet.

Lots of comments from people that have no idea of the long term effects of using steel over timber .I have built steel and timber frames and trusses for over 33 years -thousands of projects . I stopped using steel due the the long term effects on the environment and future generations. Steel production alone makes for over 30 % of the earth's green houses gas . Timber is a sustainable product.Timber has is great thermal product, strong and costs effective.If it is a cold day with steel you have a cold house Long term you will find timber move more and more to high rise as we look to product our resources and planet .Steel expands and conracts more than timber "Coefficient of thermal expansion "We all need to be Carbon Warriors . We should only use steel when there is no option. All homes need to be rated on the long term effects of the build overalllifetime.easy to make a score system Steel would have no chance- Natural products will always be No 1 ask mother nature she built the place we all live in .
