No one will notice a seam in the gutter 30 ft up on a two story home. Seamless is a sales gimmick to justify higher prices.

Neoprene washers are fine, but you can use sealant to cover the hangers and screws and any set screws as well. I'm sure by now you've come to realize that zip hinges are not strong at all. One kick, they kink and no longer hinge up. There are better options now.

What about 90 degree truns, it will have a seam that where I notice were leaks mostly occur.

This seems (ahem) to assume that all seams would be siliconed not welded. If the building is solid, wouldn’t a welded seam be much stronger than siliconed seam and affect this comparison? I feel like I’m missing something here. I’m thinking about much thicker gauge galvanized metal round pipe.

Seamless gutters are the best, but, if you have a long run, with a down spout on each end, you could use end caps in the middle, and have two separate gutters on the same run, it's better than a drip at the seam.

Seamless gutters are thin and cheap. Buy strong aluminum or copper if you can afford. I’m sick of cheap stuff.

Definitely one of the harder ways to keep water from going behind the gutters

I just want to point out to the audience that there are several eavestrough or gutter systems in use in various regions in the world for use in different climates, for example this system wouldn't work in Northern climates with heavy snow and ice loads where a proper installation would require hangers to support the load on the front. I also dispute the need for neoprene washers and ceramic coated screws. If hangers are used the height of the hardware is above that where you would get any water penetration. The easiest way to guarantee the workmanship of any work being planned for your home is to work with companies who are insurance preffered or who sub-contract for those who are on a regular basis, or thoroughly research your local contractors yourself.

Don't know why they keep using the term seamless when in fact it is not you still have corners to caulk why not call this less seamless da

So gutter flashing? That looks like it’s pretty much the same as drip edge, and if the fascia is wrapped and the roof has drip edge like every roof does why bother with gutter flashing unless you’re forced to hang a gutter lower than the drip goes even then though if your fascia is wrapped I don’t see much of a point really

Drip edge and gutter flashing are similar. Flashing is usually longer. Most homes that are wrapped have siders edge, which does not go underneath the shingle and should be removed and replaced with flashing when installing gutters in most climates. Homes that are roofed without drip edge should get flashing. It is the number one skipped step to save time and money from low quality installers that I have seen.

Do they make a strip mitre for 45 degree corners
@think41c
@think41c 3 жыл бұрын
They do, but they're hard to find. Technically, they're called "Bay Miters" not Strip Miters, and maybe searching for that term will help you find them. However, for vinyl gutters, I've never seen a Bay Miter ever. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows of plastic / vinyl gutters ever making a turn at any angle besides 90° - I've never seen it, but I'd like to think that it exists.

I’m hoping you can answer a question for me. I have steel seamless gutters on my house. The gutter company I hired placed the hangers every four feet. I measure tail to tail and it’s two feet, so they went every other. I’ve heard three feet is max. Should I add hangers in between or is four feet a part ok? I live in a warm climate with occasional rainfall.

You are fine as long as the screws were long enough and the wood is good, it is the ice load that causes most issues.
