I'm thinking about fusing some glass frit into artistic shapes by using an oxyacetylene torch (Temp 5800-6100 degrees F depending on whether oxidizing or reduction flame) Have you ever done any such thing or seen it done? I love the results you're getting, very ethereal shapes that lend themselves to so much...subscribed.

Thank you for this tutorial. Is it necessary to 'clean' the lead came before soldering? Really having trouble, using 60/40 solder and liquid Flux. No flow at all. Hint: a faint dusting of whiting on an old worn paint brush is a great way to clean up the glass and ‘seal’ the putty. Alternatively spray 50/50 meth and water….my go-to post puttying cleaner. Meths alone smears.
@SophiesStainedGlassАй бұрын
@@patrickleniston-l8k great tips thank you. I'll definitely give them a go
@patrickleniston-l8kАй бұрын
Nice job. Two things though: I didn’t see you bending the opened out lead came back over the glass prior to puttying. I place my leadknife between the glass and lead then, using my lathekin and pushing against the knife so as not to break the glass, I ease the flange back into its original form. If done carefully you’d never know it had been touched. Also, without being neurotic about the dangers of lead, during on site repairs like this lead oxides are disturbed and released into the air right in front of your mouth. So it’s 100% advisable to mask up. (30 years full time experience BTW)
@SophiesStainedGlassАй бұрын
@@patrickleniston-l8k thanks for the advice. It's generally my practice to bend the lead back over. I like your suggestion about protecting the glass. And you are right about the lead being toxic.
