Im a gay man who loves female rappers but I am also of a certain age demographic. Before the hyper sexual female MC before Kim and Fox…sure in the early 90’s we had raunchy girls like BWP, HWA, and Choice…but I resonated more with the spitters. MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shante, YoYo, Sweet Tee, Antoinette, Nikki D. Etc…hip hop wasn’t commercial when these ladies were active so not many of them can’t boast sales, or platinum records. 96 was that year the trajectory shifted with the arrival of Kim and Fox…you still had girls like Heather B, Nonchalant, Bahamadia and West coast ladies like Suga T and The Conscious Daughters dropping in 96 but a lot of these ladies got over shadowed by the Kim/Foxy blueprint. Gay boys back then weren’t fucking with hip hop just a few… they were busy vouging on some house music shit…as soon as the sexy glamour girls took over they started to garner gay fans and moving forward. Nicki has been a benefactor of a whole different landscape…internet age and streaming. I don’t think if her fan base had to cop a tangible copy she would be selling…the streaming/social media element you mentioned definitely helped Nicki and these new chics. But I still rally behind a artist like Rapsody as she give me substance and don’t sound like your typical bird brain current female rappers and no shade some of them are fun…Megan, Cardi, Latto but outside of them I ain’t fuckin with too many…and I can only sit through a few of their songs and would listen to a full album in its entirety by any of the 3 girls mentioned.

You keep saying " buy" no one buys music anymore. That has a lot to do with it also.
@JessRhymesOfficialАй бұрын
People still buy music though that’s a assumption that isn’t true
@johnnierock1090Ай бұрын
This is true if these ladies had to be at the mercy of an actual physical copy being sold many of them would barely go wood! Internet/social media presence/streaming helping alot of these current chics.

It’s a little surprising that someone would kill another person as a result of this. For his defence lawyer to say it’s not surprising is a tad disingenuous.

Not a Red fan she ain’t even of BWP/HWA caliber and that says a lot and while MC Lyte will not slam another sister for her style in Hip Hop she often takes the diplomatic stance which is cool. Lyte will also talk about how there is no balance amongst of female MC’s there is no reason a female MC like Rapsody shouldn’t be getting some shine when we have a sea full of Nicki Minaj disciples. And yes there will be NO MC Lyte bashing! She is hip hop Royalty whether we agree with her or not! I’ll leave saying this everything ain’t for everybody.
